Former president Donald Trump sat at his desk eyeing the clock, waiting for time to go by. He had a rally planned in Pennsylvania today, to raise the spirits of his voters and hopefully win over the faith of others.

He wished Biden could see him during it, to watch as he proudly gave his speech on the podium. Those dull, yet shining blue eyes... listening to his every word but probably not understanding most of it. He loved that about him. He loved everything about him, but Trump knew that it was impossible. How could he ever love Joe Biden, his presidential rival, at a time like this?

It had been four years since they last talked to each other on good terms. Ever since the 2020 election, when Biden received more votes than him and took over as president, they had been at each other's throats.

They used to be good friends before all of it though. Biden was there for Trump when he became president in 2017, which was also when the seeds of love began to bloom for both of them.

However, Biden was convinced that it was wrong to have such a close relationship with the president of the United States. So in an attempt to move up to his level, he decided to run for president in the next election. While Trump made an attempt to tell him that he didn't have to, that their relationship was still the same as it was before, Biden didn't believe him. So what else could Trump do but encourage him to do his best?

What he didn't expect was that Biden would actually win. That he would just barely gain more votes than him, and take over his job as president. It was an overwhelming feeling, and Trump ended up lashing out at him.

Now that he thought about it, he didn't mean a word of what he had said back then. While it was true that he was upset about being replaced, Biden only wanted to prove himself to him. He wanted to show that he could be powerful too, that they were on equal grounds and that a hierarchy wouldn't separate them. And although Trump personally didn't believe any of that mattered, the past was the past, and it couldn't be changed.

With a regretful sigh, Trump put his elbow on the desk and held his head in his hand. He missed the times when they could make jokes together and not get offended. But now, every little thing the other said was taken to heart, and they fought about anything they could. So why did he still love him? After everything that's happened, why did he still have hope for their relationship?

Then, a knock could be heard from the other side of the door, pulling Trump out of his thoughts.

"Sir, the limo is here." It was one of his personal assistants.

"Right, coming." He replied with an almost automated tone, standing up out of his chair and heading towards the door. For a moment, he had thought that it might be Biden. How ironic would that be? Trump knew that it was very unlikely, though. As if Joe would ever willingly meet up with him in private anymore.

"Without further ado—ladies and gentlemen! Please welcome to the stage... Donald J. Trump!"

The announcer spoke, to which many voices of exhilarated supporters cheered. That was Trump's cue to step out.

With a deep breath, he took a moment to adjust both his tie and hat, putting on the most confident smile he could manage, and walked out from behind the stage. As soon as the crowd saw him, their cheers became even louder. It was a gratifying feeling.

Trump slowly walked past the crowd of people, waving to them every now and then and savoring the moment. Once he was on the other side of the stage, he climbed up the steps and finally took his place in front of the podium. He waited for the little fanfare to cease, before beginning the introduction to his speech.
