such a distraction

A man clothed in black garments got off a car that was stationed at the roadside and walked towards them.
"Let go of her," Nathanael shouted as made haste  to reach them.

"Mind your business and leave us alone," The strange man flung at Thanael in a hostile and menacing tone.
The man seemed to be losing patience already. “Move,"he ordered Berry as he made a step forward.“ I said move," he hissed but the stubborn lady he had a tight grip on didn't budge from her standing place.
He was going to pull on her when Thanael's hand landed on his.
He effortlessly removed the strange man's hand from Berry's and pushed it up his back.
Berry was a bit surprised to see him that way because he was always very passive and gentle to the point where she thought he was a pacifist but he was something else now. Even his eyes and the air around him felt different. A shiver passed down her spine when he spoke."I said let go of her, didn't you hear that?" His tone tranquil but yet felt so aggressive.

Crack

Berry's hands flew to her ears as her ears hurriedly locked. She didn't want to hear that horrifying noise nor the cry of agony escaping his lips. She didn't want to see Nathanael do such a thing to someone. The scene displaying in front of her was horrible
"I hate having to repeat myself, so,"
It seemed as if staying the way she did  will erase the reality and she won't hear them anymore but it didn't because she still heard him speak though the sound was faint.
After a long short while the screaming finally seized.
"Leave." Thanael added a little louder.
While the man walked away, he took Berry by the hand made a quick eye scan before looking at her face. He felt her shiver at his touch. “ Are you alright?” his voice was gentle and filled with concern a complete contrast to the hoarse and menacing voice he had a minute ago. Even his gaze had turned so gentle that she could not help but stare at him in amazement seeing the ease with which he can turn from an angel to a demon.

She nodded, she couldn't get herself to talk just yet but the thought he could hurt her for making him repeat himself made her react.

He had just said "let's get go" when Berry screamed his name. His hand found his back head as a faint groan escaped his lips.
He turned to see who had hit him. His vision became blurry and things became more indistinct. The only thing he could perceive was Berry's sweet voice calling out his name though it was getting faint with time until everything went dark.

Struggling with the darkness he tried hard to you to the source of the voice that was calling out his name. It was slight at first but the more he struggled to reach for it the sound became louder.
Slowly his senses awakened and, the light caused him to squize his eyes closed. Gradually he adapted to the light around. He became conscious of the chair he was laying on. He moved but he was hindered by Berry's mass.
He tried to sit up but his head throbbed faintly and ached. The world around him seemed to spin. Her voice. He heard her call out his name with worry and concern filled in her heartbreaking fear stricken voice. Only it's sound revealed that her eyes were teary. He tried to turn towards her but his head ached even harder causing a groan to escape him. Trying to lift his hand to his head he realized he was tied up.

What was he really expecting, how come he let himself get hurt this bad?

“Did, did they hurt you?” was the first thing he said barely whispering though she had asked if he was okay.

“They won't, I told them that I'll give them money so they went out to think about it.”
He sat up despite the pain he felt.
“ They won't or they didn't”
“...”
He sighed,“How many are they?”
He asked looking at her disheveled self. She was a heart breaking sight to behold. Her hands were tightly tied together and hung up on the handhold at the top of the car's window.
All the glasses were up except the driver's. Shifting his gaze back to her, she hastily spoke “two, they are two of them outside.”
He looked at his pants, and sent his hand in the front pocket. Though he was concentrated in his search he still felt her gaze scrutinizing his every move looking askance at him. But he won't explain, not yet, not now, she was such a distraction.
All his years of service for the army never earned him an injury so easily.
Actually he has never sustained such a grave injury while at the military now that he retreats that's when he's hurt. He sighed. Why was he so engrossed just by looking at her?

He removed a small pocket knife and placed it in between his knees and moved his hands up and down the blade until the cord was cut.

He swiftly cut the rope that hung her hands in the air. Their hands met but he was quick to look away. He wanted to tell her to stop looking at him but if looking at him will calm her down, then let her just do it.
Glancing out of the window, he realized they were not in the central town where the festival was held.
“ They traveled with us here.” he voiced out realizing something.

“yes,” Berry answered.
