Inuyasha had offered to show Serenity freedom, he did like her and even after a few hours of them getting to know each other, they danced together, they dined together, they even talked for hours just being friendly, even though she did give him some warnings what things would be like if either side caught them spending time together.

His brother is to become the next king of his father's kingdom, not him, so he thought the hell with them, and he took off, especially after his dad tried to pick out the mermaid he'd be forced to marry and spend the rest of his life with, and he rejected her.
