Aaron's POV

The days felt like a blur, each one blending into the next with a frustrating sameness.

Faces and names danced at the edges of my memory, just slightly out of reach, like shadows in the fog.

The doctors call it amnesia, but to me, it feels like a void, a gaping hole where my life could've/should've been.

Sitting in my room, I stared out the window, watching the pretty sunlight filter through the trees. The world outside seemed so familiar, yet at the same time...so alien...

A gentle knock at the door drew my attention.

"Aaron?"

It was Melissa's voice that came softly, as she peeked into the room. "How are you feeling today?"

I then slowly shrugged, and gave her a small, yet weak smile. "Same...but a bit better...Trying to remember, yet coming out mostly empty each try."

Melissa then stepped into the room fully, her presence alone bringing a comforting  aura. "I brought someone who wants to see you," she said, stepping aside to reveal a semi-familiar woman in the doorway.

She was pretty and petite, with long black hair and warm, expressive eyes.

The moment I saw her, my heart had skipped a beat, though I couldn't quite place as to why.

"Aaron," she said, her voice trembling a bit with a mix of hope and fear. "It's me, Aphmau."

Her name stirred something deep within me, a flicker of recognition that sent a jolt through my entire being. I searched her face, desperately trying to grasp the threads of memory that seemed just out of reach.

"I know you," I whispered, my voice barely audible. "I don't exactly know how..but I know you."

Tears welled up in her eyes as she stepped closer, taking my hand in hers. Her touch was electric, a jolt of familiarity that sent my heart racing.

"Of course you know me! We've been through so much together..." she said to me, her voice choked with emotion. "You and I...were...we were going to get married."

The weight of her words settled over me, and I closed my eyes, willing the memories to come. Flashes of moments, fragments of laughter and shared sorrow, began to surface.

"I remember...bits and pieces," I said slowly, opening my eyes to meet hers. "But it's like trying to hold onto water. It slips away."

Aphmau squeezed my hand gently, her eyes shining with determination. "We'll get through this together, Aaron. I know you can't remember everything right now, but your heart knows. And that's enough for now."

Her words were a balm to my fractured soul. I nodded, feeling a warmth spread through me.

"Tell me about us," I said, my voice steadier. "Help me remember."

Aphmau smiled through her tears, a radiant expression that filled me with hope. She began to talk, recounting stories of our time together, our adventures, and the love we shared. As she spoke, the pieces of my memory started to fall into place, forming a mosaic of a life I had once known.

Hours passed in a blur of words and emotions. By the time she finished, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. I might not remember everything, but I knew, deep in my heart, that I loved this woman.

"Aphmau," I said softly, reaching out to touch her face. "I don't have all my memories back yet, but I know one thing for certain...I love you.."
