Skylar's P.O.V.
I held Zach's jacket on my wound even though it was already tied. I really hope that it doesn't get infected. And that we can find some bandages somewhere. I wasn't sure about my feelings for him earlier, but I think I know now.
I'm falling for him.
I glanced back seeing the brothers talking. About what, I don't know. Maybe I don't want to know. But at the moment I don't care. I just want to live till tomorrow.
The dead leaves and tree limbs crunch beneath our feet as we trudge through the forest. At least the sun will make us dry faster, but the humidity brings bugs. I swat at my legs to keep off the Mosquitos, but it doesn't do anything but slow us down even more. I don't even notice what I walked into until I kicked something in the path.
I stop swatting my legs to take a closer look at the object that I sent rolling across the ground. It was concealed by some bushes, so I bent down (carefully) to pick it up.
It was a white helmet. And it was destroyed, covered with dry blood. I screamed, dropping the helmet as I scrambled to get as far away from it as possible.
"Skylar!" Zach must've heard the scream because he caught me in my hurry. "What's wrong?"
"There was something over there. In the bushes. A helmet-blood! It was-I can't..." I could feel Zach wrap his arms around me in an attempt to comfort me. I didn't realize I was crying until he wiped away the tears. As he was doing that, I could see Gray go over to the bushes, picking up the totaled helmet and taking a look around. I didn't notice until now the turned over truck in the vines. I gasped.
Death was not something I took well.
A loud roar suddenly rang out through the forest, making all of us jump from the sudden break in the silence.
"We need to move," I urge, "go, Go!" As we run, I wince from the pain coming from my now probably open wound, but ignore it. I'd rather feel it then die a certain death. There are moments in my life I still want to live. I want a future, I want to get married, I want a family! I can't let something that almost didn't exist to ruin it for me now.
After a bit of running, we slowed to a walk. Zach checked up on my wound and asked if I was alright. I assured him I was fine and that my cut was ok. For the rest of the journey, he was paying very close attention to me which was annoying, but kinda sweet.
After more walking, I noticed the dirt ground change to aged stone. "What?" I whispered to myself. I walked up an old staircase and to a stone wall. Wait a second, those look like doors. I slowly brought up my hands and pushed.
I was right. They were doors! The doors slowly creaked open to reveal a large room, crumbling and practically falling apart of old age, with all types of plants and vegetation growing within the cracks and seams. I know this place.
"What is this place?" Zach asked. Despite all of the open spaces, there was just enough for a little echo.
"It's the Visitors Center." I realized.
Gray looked at me with fascination. "Wait, you mean-"
The smile on my face grew. "Welcome to Jurassic Park."
"Whoa," Zach breathed. I smiled in agreement. He bent down to the ground, brushing dirt off of an old banner. He suddenly turned to Gray. "Still got those matches?" To my surprise, Gray fished out a box of matches from his little black fanny pack, handing them to his older brother. How are those even dry?
Speaking of dry, my hair was a mess, and it was hot, so I took the hair tie around my wrist and tied my hair into a ponytail.
As I did that, Zach wrapped the banner around an old bone, lighting it with a match, making a torch.
