Summertime Sadness

Main Pairing : Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski

"Alright, what's got my Sourwolf looking more sour than usual?"

When Stiles couldn't find his boyfriend at the loft, he decided to drive out to the preserve. Sure enough, the broody Alpha was sitting on the front steps of the old Hale house, staring off into space and looking utterly morose.

He quietly walked over and sat down, putting his arm around the other man's shoulder. The fact that he seemed to startle the wolf made Stiles even more concerned.

"Der? Come on, talk to me, tell me what's wrong.."

"Nothing it's just..." Derek sighed as he leaned against the younger man," today's the summer solstice, and every year my family used to have this big celebration with a bonfire and everything. I didn't get a chance to think about it while Laura and I were hiding in New York, but now that I'm here it seems like...."

"Like everything's flooding back all at once?"

"Yeah."

They sat there for awhile, enveloped in the crushing silence, before a determined look crossed Stiles's face. He stood and grabbed Derek's hand, pulling him up before starting to drag him towards the Jeep.

"Stiles...what are you doing?"

"I am taking you back to my house to gather supplies for a picnic, and then WE are going down to the beach to watch the fireworks display from the Midsommar festival nearby....after which I'm planning on activities that will result in both of us getting sand in crevices we never knew we had."

"You really don't have to-"

"I want to," Stiles whispered as he let go of Derek's hand so he could hug him instead," I can't replace the memories of your family, but maybe I can help you make some new ones that are just as good."

Derek squeezed him back so tightly that Stiles was certain he might have cracked a rib.

The smile on his wolf's face was totally worth it though.

"I love you....so, so much."

"Love you too, Der-bear...now come on let's go get our solstice on!"

They both laughed as they ran to the Jeep and headed out to their planned adventure....hearts filled with a love that no fire could ever burn out.
