A Mercenary's Beginnings

Days passed, and by far, both Mihaly and Jackal were disappointed.

Very disappointed.

By far, there was nothing interesting happening around, and the two needed a good plan to gain profit through their esteemed group because it was quite easy to come up with one in a lawless city.

And there was nobody good enough to hire them, especially when Mihaly was dressed in a tight black bodysuit with orange lines on it.

He also had a rabbit-themed helmet that worked as a gas mask, filtering many dangerous gases and chemicals without restricting airflow.

Outside of battle, the gas mask's special ability did not activate.

With how intimidating he looked with his weapons (Massive Assault Rifle and Combat Knife) holstered, nobody stupid enough would approach the two without good intentions.

Jackal was in awe of the suit, as it came from equipping the 4th Pack Rabbit Identity, which slightly shifted his personality, though it was not much of a problem.

Unless he got high from having the Serum R injected into his body through his suit; that's when he really goes crazy for blood.

Through his usage and control over the Identity's personality, which actually started to try to take over him, he was making himself unequip it at times.

The guy just wants to kill everyone without a trace except Jackal.

It's hard to control himself once the serum's effect kicks in, even more so if more of the serum is injected into his body.

Note to himself: Thinking that a murder-hungry super soldier needs rest is ridiculous.

Another note: the same super soldier thinks Jackal should have become one of them.

So far, Jackal had her own arsenal, if you could call it one. Right now, she was armed with some explosives and even a single grenade launcher she called "The Boomstick."

It's nothing short of a regular, double-barreled grenade launcher the two looted from dead enemies and "Liars."

Nobody served as a good contractor, really. Besides, those guys either got killed by Jackal or couldn't look at Mihaly through his helmet and ran away immediately because that guy thought Mihaly was a Nikke.

And Jackal was the type of crazy girl who found herself enjoying blasting people to pieces; she would immediately blast a possible contractor with a regular grenade to the face.

She would immediately tell him, "Hmph! Jackal hates liars!" much to his dismay.

She's more of a sidekick that his Identity favors and tries to train, but that doesn't mean she's not troublesome.

So, why did he want to find one in the first place? One, he didn't like having to scavenge for useless stuff. Two, he was searching for those who could mutually benefit from a long-term arrangement despite some implications.

Some examples were being affiliated with Royal Dolla or joining E.H., which had a mission to help the people of the Outer Rim by creating Heavenly Ascension.

Three, it was his side mission.
