The ambition of the Hand of the King had gotten him to the point of exile when he suggested the first-born son, once more, as the Heir of the Iron Throne, above the chosen Heir of King Viserys, first of his name, who had chosen his daughter, the Princess Rhaenyra, when her mother and brother died—and the King needed a replacement after the distasteful eulogy the Rogue Prince held in the brothels of Flea Bottom.

He had managed to work himself back in the graces of the King, once the Hand he had chosen to replace the man from Oldtown resigned of his duties to return to the cursed castle of Harrenhal. It had been then when the Hand realised the grave illness that had befallen the King, and his wife, the Queen Alicent of House Hightower, had never left his side, neglecting their children when they needed her most, for a King who often called her the name of the wife before her.

Otto Hightower then acted as Regent of the Seven Kingdoms, as the Heir had disappeared off to Dragonstone with her new husband and their children, Otto Hightower had asked the Council in the absence of the King what should be done to protect the realm, or in his eyes, to secure his grandson on the Iron Throne. Prince Aegon had been five and ten name days when the Hand suggested to the Council to keep in tradition of Old Valyria, to wed Prince Aegon to his younger sister, Princess Helaena. The Hand agreed to the match, and proclaimed it to the realm, this would give Aegon heirs that did not look plain featured.

But the Hand did not take in consideration that Prince Aegon hated the Valyrian tradition, and by extension would avoid his sister-wife after their marriage. Prince Aegon would spend his time venturing Flea Bottom, much like his Uncle had done as well, before he met people who he considered his friends.

Ser Martyn Reyne had been a knight who had frequented the brothels along with his friend ser Leon Estermont when they met Prince Aegon, often encouraging him to drink along with them, or find a whore to wet their cocks, even though sometimes Aegon doubted this should be something he should do. Aegon never had a guiding hand in what was right and what was not, his own mother would condemn his nephews as bastards and call his older half-sister a whore, but here he was enjoying the company of bastards and whores alike.

It had been the celebration of the King's eight and tenth wedding day to Queen Alicent when things started to further shift around. The King felt well enough to join the celebrations as a tourney would be held, where Aegon would watch his friends joust, keeping his final friend close, as his friend Eddard Waters was not allowed to joust along them, but Aegon managed to keep him around as a cupbearer.

It had been by invitation of Lord Larys of House Strong, who seemed to be the personal advisor of Queen Alicent who had set his own plans in motion. Three years into the Prince's wedding and no child had taken fruit with his sister-wife, just as Aegon wished it, but there had been another Lord Larys had met when he went with the Queen to meet new Ladies-in-waiting, a wasted cause as the Queen only wished to keep Taliya close to her.
