AT NIGHT

It was Friday night, Commanders, Medicos, and Trainees gathered at the lake side of the military camp for a much-needed break. The bonfire crackles in the centre, providing warmth and a cosy atmosphere. Dressed in casual clothes—jeans, hoodies, and comfortable casual wear—they sit in a circle, sharing stories, laughter, and camaraderie.

As the night progresses, marshmallows are roasted to perfection, turning golden brown and gooey. The group enjoys the simple pleasure of making s'mores, the taste of melted chocolate and marshmallow bringing smiles to their faces.

As he sipped his hot chocolate, his eyes kept drifting back to her every few seconds. She was dressed in a cosy brown fleece pyjama set, looking perfect in the warmth of the fire. Her hair was tied up in a simple bun, with a few loose strands falling softly around her face, framing it gently. The soft glow from the bonfire made her look even more peaceful and relaxed.

A small smile made on his face seeing her puffy cheeks, pouty lips as she blew some air on the hot marshmallow, before taking a small bite. She sets the kashmiri shawl around her, Feeling the chill in the weather.

Some commanders were telling their bravery events to the new recruits, some laughing and scoffing at their friend's fake stories.

"Like imagine, circled up by 10 terrorists and you alone with an empty gun-" He shaked his head as Shiva started to mention his stories with a lot of drama and action.

He tried to keep his gaze at the lake and the reflection of the moon in water, but somehow every time his gaze turned to another moon. He exhales reminding himself that he is in a public setting and has a reputation to maintain.

He couldn't help but admire the soft features of her face, the way her hair swayed in the gentle breeze, the way her eyes fluttered with joy as she took a bite of the marshmallow. Even though he tried to focus on the stories that the boys were telling each other, he couldn't help but steal glances at her every now and then.

He tried to keep his feelings under control, but the sight of her sweet lips taking a bite of the marshmallow was too much for him to handle. He quickly shifted his gaze away from her, trying to distract himself with the bonfire in front of him.

"You're staring again, lover boy." Shiva teased, noticing his gaze shifting towards her. He quickly snapped out of it and tried to laugh it off.

"Oh, shut up. I was just spacing out." he replied, his voice a little tenser than usual. He took a quick glance at her before looking away again, trying to avoid any suspicious looks from the others.

Shiva chuckled, clearly not buying his excuse. "Sure, you were just 'spacing out.' And I'm sure that 'spacing out' just so happened to involve staring right at a certain someone over there, huh?" he teased, nudging him playfully. He rolled his eyes, trying to keep his expression neutral.
