It's been five days since I last saw Freen or got into any trouble. I followed all the rules and regulations here. I made sure that I wasn't late for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. In fact, I was the first one up every morning. I eat quickly and get back to my room before anyone else wakes up or comes to eat. Luckily, I haven't seen Freen since that "incident," and Nam reassured me that my daddy was indeed alive and doing well. I didn't quite believe her at first. I believed her after she made a phone call to him.
He sounded annoyed and irritated. He didn't even bother to ask me how I was doing or why my mom wasn't calling to check up on me. I don't know why he changed drastically.
"Becky, are you ready?" Mint called from behind the door, but I didn't bother to answer her. Instead, I just stared at the gorgeous strapless black dress that I was practically forced to wear today. Yesterday, we were ordered to dress up for the event that's happening now. We are supposed to get dressed and meet the girls and guys downstairs.
Apparently, today was the day that we give the whole speech about the vampire's big heart and their hospitality to our kind. This will be helpful in their ties with them. According to me, we have to lie throughout the whole speech.
"You look so damn sexy," Nam's voice sends shivers down my spine. I turned my head to look at her, Orm, Won the three of them staring at me in admiration. To be honest, I feel a bit more comfortable around these three than the other vampires who live here, since they haven't hurt me in any way or tried to make a move on me. Not that I like them or anything, just saying that they are better than the rest here.
I went to the three of them and forced a smile. I am not happy with the fact that they have been acting so comfortably around me for the past 3 days. I didn't want them to feel like I am getting used to them. I wanted them to stay away from me, but it feels like the harder I push them away, the harder they're trying to pull me in.
After grabbing a black clutch, I slipped on lace-up heels and followed them outside where the girls and a few more vampires were waiting for us. The guys were wearing suits and had their hair brushed neatly, almost making them look like somewhat decent human beings. Some guys whistled upon my arrival, but I didn't bother to make eye contact with either of them.
"Where are we going?" I heard Oraya ask, and Mint chuckled.
"Who said anything about going anywhere? It's the human community who are coming to see us, sweetheart, not the other way around," Danny said with a hint of sarcasm in his tone. Jerk. He hates our kind with a passion, like I do.
The party is set to be hosted in the vast garden. The food and wines are placed in one corner, and the dance floor is set on the other side. People started to arrive, and soon enough, the entire area is filled with people.
"You should eat," Nam's voice startled me. I turned to look up at her. Why does this girl keep following me around anyway? She's been like this ever since the whole "punishment" thing happened where Freen almost killed my daddy. What is she trying to prove? I wonder.
"I will," I said shortly.
After another half an hour or so, I finally decided to give up. I sighed as I made my way towards the food.
Everyone was now talking and laughing, enjoying their night while I simply stood gawking at the gate. As I stood near the table, my eyes caught sight of a girl who was wearing a hoodie, standing near the gate looking at the palace. Why doesn't she come in? What is she doing here? I wondered. I tried to focus on her to see her face clearly.
"Hello miss, do you want anything to eat?" a butler asked, blocking my vision.
"No, thank you," I said and started to walk up to the gates to see her. But a hand grabbed my shoulders as I turned to face him. David. I sighed in relief.
"I'm just going out for a quick walk," I lied with a kind of annoyance in my voice, knowing that he was about to lecture me.
"I don't think that's a good idea. After what you did last week, Freen specifically told me to keep an eye on you." Freen's name somehow tickled my nerves as I raised my eyebrow at him. "Well, she is not here now, is she?" I countered back, and she mumbled something to himself before shaking his head.
"Beck-"
"It's just a quick walk, it's not like I am
going to run away. I promise I won't try anything that put me in danger. Please David, I need some time alone," I spoke softly, and his expression grew softer at my words."Fine. But be back in 15 minutes," he said, and I nodded with a smile. I quickly turned around and walked out towards the gate before turning to my left as I tried to catch the sight of the mysterious-looking girl who was standing near the gate before.
There was something about her that made me curious at the moment. I
have no idea why I've taken this sudden interest in someone I only caught a glimpse of. She's not in the spot I saw her earlier. She was probably just some normal guy passing by, so why should I look for her now? After looking around the area one more time, I am about to give up and get back inside when I noticed a dark figure standing near a huge oak tree. Her brown eyes sparkled even under the shadows of the tree, and perhaps that was the reason why I found her so alluring. I started walking up to her as she leaned against the tree.
