MASON'S POV

I had witnessed my worst nightmare!

Abi had an accident. An accident I couldn't stop. And it broke me.

I was busy yelling at Myles for his extremely stupid actions. He wasn't the nice guy everyone believed. He was reckless and vindictive. He was serving Abi and early death.

I was close to knocking him out until I saw her push off out of the corner of my eye. My world went silent.

I rushed to follow her down. She'd gone down fast, which didn't help the odds of me catching her. I frantically searched for her among the people having the time of their lives. They were cheering with joy, but my heart was in my chest with fear—fear that the girl I cared about was hurt.

My heart pounded as I slowly descended the mountain. Where was she?

"ABI!" I yelled, praying she was conscious. I called out for her with desperation for what felt like an eternity. I'd almost lost hope until I heard a faint cry of my name. I scanned the area, reassuring myself that she was alive, and I would find her.

A small hand stuck out of the snow was the greatest gift I had ever received. I rushed over to find Abi limp against a tree. The board she had used had unclipped itself, leaving her stranded. I bent down to her and frowned. She had cuts on her eyebrow and a pending bruise on her head.

"Mason." She breathed as her teary eyes met mine. "Don't say I told you so."

I coughed out a small laugh at her. "You're unbelievable, Abigail Hughes."

"My head hurts." She complained. Her frozen hand rubbed her blue forehead, making her wince in pain.

"I know." I hushed, taking her cold hand in mine to warm her while I figured out my next move to get her to safety.

The person I hated most was, unfortunately, my first step. I shouted Myles as he came down the mountain.

"Make yourself useful and get the boys," I told him venomously. He nodded his head and sped down.

"I thought I'd be fine." She said in a delirious state. Her pupils were dangerously dilated, and my worry of a concussion was almost inevitable. "I was doing well at the start."

"I'm sure you were." I smiled. "But the mountain is dangerous."

"So are you." She countered. I narrowed my eyes in confusion. She wasn't herself, but she sounded so convicting. "You're dangerous to me. I saw you kissing that girl. That hurt my heart." That was a new level of pain to me. Abi was the worst person to hurt. "The D in Dugray is for danger. Wait? It starts with a D, right?"

My concern for her condition worsened, but my knights in shining snow gear came speeding towards us. Hyde and Marcus dropped the medical carrier on the snow while Clay and Jordan came to help me lift Abi. Her squeals of pain made my heart wrench. We'd done many mountain rescues worse than this, but seeing Abi in pain was the worst thing imaginable.

~~~
Abi had been with the doctor for nearly an hour. I brought her back to my house and called my emergency doctor to meet us there. I held my head in my hands, replaying the horrendous visions of Abi in danger.
"I'm going to kill Myles," Jordan said from the other side of the room.
"Join the club," I replied.
Nobody other than my three friends had stepped foot into my house, and that was only for a minute. My house is private in the quiet Hollyhead area that people have forgotten about. Jordan and Ruby huddled in the corner, calming each other's nerves while we waited for the doctor's verdict. There was a part of me that wanted to blame them, too. They weren't looking out for Abi; they were too focused on each other, but I left her alone for a week.
The doctor walked down the stairs, and I jumped up. He looked calm and collected, which I was anything but. When he arrived, he kicked me out of the room because he couldn't handle my pacing.
"She's fine." He announced to the room. "Abi does have a concussion and a few cuts and bruises. Let her rest for a few days, and she will recover fine."
It was music to my ears. Jordan and Ruby hugged each other. My chest felt slightly later, knowing Abi's weak body would spring back.
"She's asking for you, Mason."
~~~

My house had always been my sanctuary. The place nobody bothered me, and I never had to feel anything other than what I wanted. But there I was, walking up the stairs with many emotions my stomach couldn't decide on.

I opened the door quietly to see Abi resting peacefully on my dark pillow. It looked like she'd been through hell yet still resembled an angel.

"Doc said you were asking for me." I nervously said.

Abi's eyes found me at the door and sparkled how I loved. "I wanted to thank you. You save my arse back there."

I would do anything for her...

"I'm just glad you're okay." I grinned. She reached out to me with her frail hand so I could walk to her. I gently sat on the side of the bed, worried about hurting her tiny body. Her skin was no longer ice cold, instantly comforting me. "I think it's hot chocolate and books for the rest of your winter break."

She lazily smiled at me. "I'm sorry you had to save me. That's not your job."

I felt myself melt from her words. I gently tucked her loose fringe behind her ear. "Don't apologise." I sternly said. "I just should be apologising. I've been a dick all week. I should have protected you from Myles; I should have protected you from everything..." I quickly hushed when I noticed her eyes had closed. I smiled and kissed her forehead.

"I promise I'll explain everything later."
