Prologue

'Sorry, mother.' She thought to herself before closing the door.

She wasn't a pharmacist or a maid in the palace. She lied to her mother about her work because she doesn't want her to worry. Her job as a thief was a secret because she was not known to other people.

She tucked her hair inside her hood and swiftly walked to the pathway. The rain made it hard for her to see through the dark streets of the Slums in Nazaria. An isolated place for the lower class of the kingdom. Beggars and thieves like her, always crowded the alleys at night.

'First, I have to steal money to buy my mother's medication.' wika niya sa sarili.

She can do anything with any one of the abilities around her. But she refused to use her arcane ability to avoid the eyes of the people around her.

She took a deep breath and looked out over the crumbling, rundown buildings cast in shadows by the flickering lamp posts dotting the street. There's not much electricity in the slums, but the king generously spared them a few lampposts.

Farther from the slums, the more the rows of shops and homes slowly improve in condition and size. Shacks turn into homes, homes turn into mansions, leading up to the most daunting building of all. Squinting through the darkness, she can't just barely make out the looming towers of the royal castle.

'A bunch of victims tonight. What a sweet sight.' she thought to herself as she sneaked her way through the crowd.

She loves being unnoticed by everyone around her. A smirk plastered on her lips, glancing at the crowd that buys food at each stall in the middle of the road.

The moon, lazy as ever, is slowly struggling to peek over the run-down buildings, casting alley shadows while she makes her way down the cobblestone path. As the street comes alive with the hustle and bustle of merchants haggling while beggars plead with anyone who spares them a glance, she easily blends into the chaos that surrounds the slums.

She immediately found a handsome young guy wearing a black coat passing by. Underneath the cloak she saw the fine clothes that the young man was wearing.

'Bingo. This one looks like he is a son from a rich family.' A light bulb automatically appeared on top of her head making him her next target.

It was the imperial guards of the kingdom guarding the alleys near the slums. She heard a chilling scream from the crowd and when she looked back to search for the source of the noise. Only to find a small boy tied on a small pole in front of some guards whipping both of the boys hands.
