Prologue

You sat in place, frozen as you watched your beloved kingdom slowly crumble to the ground. Agonizing screams were non-stop and distant, it made your hands twitch in place. Your eyelids felt dry yet you couldn't bear to blink. Hoping that what you were witnessing was some sort of twisted, sick dream. Flames ignited under a setting sun. Boasting with self-praise as they danced beyond the kingdoms walls.

The small canoe you sat on swayed back and forth as it hit against the waves. In some sort of way, it was almost unnerving. The sea beneath you looked dark and empty. Reminding you of an endless abyss. As you etched further and further away from the island. You wondered if your parents had made it out alive. If they'd evacuated some citizens. If not, at least one. You couldn't tell. The sounds of screams and crinkling fire died down as your island now looked like a small pea.

*Present*

Your head bobbed to music as it blasted throughout your dorm room. A ragged pencil sat between your ring finger and your thumb. The led from the pencil softly grazed your paper as it went back and forth. Your leg bounced up and down as it synchronized with your music. It was as if you were in your own little world. You felt at peace. As you hummed to your music, ignorant to anything else. An unsuspecting knock came from your door. Your eyes traveled towards the door and quickly averted themselves back to your paper. You figured it was your roommate.

The door opened, fast but wary. Footsteps traveled across the other side of the room. An abrupt silence replaced the once groovy room filled with music. Your eyes rolled as you turned around to face your giddy roommate. Knew it.

Hands behind her back, she gave you a cheeky smile. You raised your eyebrows in question.  She let out a long sigh before speaking

"So, you know that one guy from Mr Delays 4th period Chemistry class?"

"You mean the one you keep going on and on about everyday?" You said as you began to rise from your seat and make your way towards your wardrobe. She nodded her head and skipped her way right behind you. With a flick of your wrist. Your wardrobe opened. Balls of yarn and silk sprung out in an elegant-flowy way. Clicking your tongue, you started rummaging through your clothes. Raven peaked behind your shoulder. Getting too close for comfort. You let it slide though. She was your roommate after all.

Her head rested on your shoulder as she let out an airy sigh. If you'd let her. She'd go on and on about every single perfection she saw in Dug. How silky his hair looked up close, how his eyes seemed to glow even more underneath the moonlights gaze, or how he chewed on his upper lip whenever he was studying. The list went on and on. You couldn't really tell what was so special about "Dug." Gosh, it just sounded like a douchebag type of name. Whatever anyone else saw in him that was negative. Raven turned a blind eye. Too fascinated  on what she'd call his "silky miracle." That referred to his hair. You'd say she was almost infatuated with everything he did. Who were you to judge though? She was happy and you couldn't even comprehend what an upset Raven would look like. She was pure and full of zest. People liked being around her. Ranting was one of her strong suits.

You pulled out two matching pajama sets and threw them on your bed. Raven grabbed onto your arm as you both sat on a fluffy pink carpet that lie on the floor. With a clap of her hands. The lights that once lit up the room were replaced with darkness for a few seconds. A small lamp not too far from you both, turned on. Raven moved away to sit opposite of you. She sat crisscrossed as her hands hugged her waist. Your back rested against your bed frame as you closed your eyes.

"What did you wanna talk about?" You asked her.

Her cheeks puffed up before replying "Remember back when we were walking in the courtyard? You mentioned something about your sister attending school here? Any updates?"

"Why would you wanna know" a breathy chuckle escaped your lips.

"I don't know I just.. Think it would be good for you to get out of your shell! Talk a bit more? Loosen up a bit! Maybe having family around you wouldn't be all that bad!!" Her head moved a lot while she talked. That's one thing you liked about her. She was always expressive.

"Okay. Well, first of all. Red is not my sister. She can barely stand me, and it's better that way. Plus. Her mom only sent me here so she wouldn't have to deal with two kids. She barely even likes her kid as it is! If Red comes to Auradon. My life will only get more miserable. And you'd know that if you were actually listening to me." You gave her a side glance as your head leaned a little to the left. Raven just nodded her head before getting up to put her Pj's on. You followed not so long after.

There was a full moon tonight. Its gentle glow shone through your shallow curtains. As you curled up in bed. Holding onto your covers tight. They brought you comfort. Your eyelids started to get heavy. You let out a sigh of relief as you felt your consciousness start to slip away. Your body relaxed as your vision was soon met with darkness.
