Chapter Five
Paris had always been the life of the group, the one who kept her friends laughing and having a good time no matter what.
Even as they all grew older and their lives started to take different paths, Paris made sure to keep that bond strong, planning regular outings and get-togethers so they could stay connected.
But lately, she'd noticed a shift in the dynamic - her friends seemed almost resentful of the changes in her own life, the way she was now spending more time with her boyfriend Phil and his social circle.
As Paris sat on the Sprinter with her friends, texting Phil to let him know their location, she could feel the tension in the air.
Kelsie's snarky comment about Paris "reporting her location to her man" stung, and Paris couldn't help but roll her eyes in exasperation.
She and Phil had been together for over a year now, and she was head-over-heels in love - of course, she was going to keep him updated on where she was.
It wasn't about being controlled or needing his approval, it was simply about sharing her life with the person she cared for most.
Paris tried to brush it off, but then Sasha chimed in, hinting that Paris had been "moving differently" since getting with Phil.
The implication was clear - her friends felt like she was leaving them behind, prioritizing her relationship over their friendship.
Paris couldn't help but feel defensive. "I'm in a happy and healthy relationship," she retorted, "why the fuck wouldn't I change? I'm not going to move around like I'm still single."
And it was true - Paris had grown and evolved in so many ways since falling for Phil. She was no longer the carefree, party-hopping single woman she used to be.
Now, her priorities had shifted; she was thinking about the future, about potentially starting a family with Phil someday.
Going out clubbing and bar-hopping just didn't hold the same appeal anymore. But to her friends, it seemed like she was abandoning them.
"But that doesn't mean you have to replace us with his friends, because that's all who you hang out with nowadays," Tatiana chimed in, voicing the group's collective concern.
Paris shook her head in frustration. "You guys are the ones who stopped coming around. When I invite any of you to come anywhere with me, you decline. What the fuck am I supposed to do?" she fired back. "And I hang out with Phil's friends because they are good people."
It was true - Paris had made some wonderful new friends through Phil, and she genuinely enjoyed their company. They were kind, and respectful, and shared her values. But to her longtime friends, it probably felt like Paris was leaving them behind, prioritizing this new social circle over the one she'd had for years.
"Because everything you do revolves around Phil," Kelsie pressed on. "You don't party anymore. It's either you at home, at work, or a WWE event. How are we supposed to hang out with you?"
Paris rolled her eyes, feeling her annoyance growing. She never complained when her friends spent time with their significant others, so why couldn't they extend her the same courtesy? "I'm sorry that me trying to keep my relationship good and being happy is causing you guys so much trouble," she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Deenisha jumped in then, her voice firm. "Bish, we're just trying to tell you to be a better friend to us," she said. Paris scoffed. "And I'll do that when you guys do the same," she retorted.
The back-and-forth continued, with neither side willing to budge. Paris felt like her friends just didn't understand how much her life had changed, how her priorities had shifted.
