Porcelain dolls are very precious creatures aren't they?
It's one thing to be beautiful, but it's another to be like one of those kind, in that specific society. Sanes are meant to be clean, poised, elegant, and perfectly orderly on the outside as well as the inside, hence the name "Sane". It was a weird name we took in, but I can't change that as well as the societal norms. Of course, our rules aren't easy things to deal with for the weak minded.
A lifelong task like this was a crude burden. To be perfect every second, to posses an overall legalistic persona under a strict government...To always smile...
It was subconsciously painful to me..
"Inmate 9126." A voice snaps. "Just what on Earth are you doing? Do you have a death wish?" A familiar security guard peers through the large glass window.
"Oh, come on, Walt! Do you really expect me to stay wrapped in this unbearable straightjacket? I'm not insane, you know..." I retort, the jacket being halfway off.
"You should've spoken more on that when you were sent to court. I hope you know that the Warden is coming for inspection today."
Inspection? Being one of the very few to be trapped here, the Warden doesn't seem to care to waste his time like that on us.
'Strange...' I thought.
"What? He chooses to do this now? Don't the nurses or security guards do that? Is there some kind of announcement or something?" I continue to struggle in the jacket. Walt unlocks the door with his keycard and steps in to help me up. "I doubt it. Nothing really happens in this ol' mad house." I can't wrap my finger around it, but I still can't wonder why he's so kind to me.
Ever since I got here he's been a little to friendly for an officer. Especially for one slaving his day away in a psych ward. I don't really like to talk about my past, but I've been treated worse my whole life, living under a terrible structure of law. And it only makes it worse when you're a porcelain doll. Everyone is so overly cautious...
Our world is made up of off glass, diamonds, and various luxurious structures and materials. Not a single soul is in poverty. No rags, nor stains, everyone is just ideal. Houses were built as mansions of quarts and crystal, lawns were icy and white, even our pets have restrictions. It's a life one of ignorance could want. It's simply uncomfortable.
Excuse my language, but I'm sure you could go insane by striving to be balanced, living up to being a Sane. Though, I can't see how it doesn't effect Walt...
My feet make tinking sounds against the floor as he leads me out of my cell. "We have an hour before he stops by. Your inmates are out in the yard, so let's get you over there. Though, I doubt you'll be talking to anyone there. You never really do.." Walt says.
He's right, I wouldn't even consider it. I was dropped here due to a misunderstood action, or "crime" I've committed. I'm not actually crazy, at least I hope, but I guess what I did was thought as something only a lunatic would do. I'd hate to talk about it though...It's just as absurd as this straightjacket...
"Yeah...right."
Eventually, we make it to the yard, where the other patients were socializing at. I try to go unnoticed and leave Walt with a friendly goodbye. Sneaking past the ill group, I find a spot behind a stack of old and ripped cushioned chairs to sit. Sighing, I take the chance to look up at the only thing that wasn't white, a beautiful and carefree canvas, the sky...
