Curiosity and excitement overtook Blaze as he stood before the mirror, marveling at his transformed reflection. "Okay, Holyark," he whispered to himself, "let's see what you can do."
Focusing on his hand, Blaze attempted to summon the golden energy he'd seen in his dreams. At first, nothing happened. Then, suddenly, a burst of light erupted from his palm, far more powerful than he'd anticipated. The energy beam ricocheted off the mirror, bouncing around the small bathroom like a pinball of pure power.
"Whoa!" Blaze yelped, ducking as the beam zipped over his head. It struck the shower curtain, instantly vaporizing it into a cloud of steam. The toilet wasn't so lucky - the porcelain cracked with a loud snap as the energy grazed its side, sending water spraying across the floor.
Panicking, Blaze tried to control the wild beam. He raised his hands instinctively, and to his surprise, the energy responded, coalescing into a pulsing orb between his palms. "Okay, okay, that's better," he breathed, relief washing over him.
But his relief was short-lived. The orb began to grow, feeding off his heightened emotions. Blaze's eyes widened as he realized he couldn't dispel it. "No, no, no," he muttered, backing away from the mirror.
In a desperate attempt to contain the situation, Blaze thrust his hands towards the bathtub. The energy orb shot forward, colliding with the tub in a spectacular explosion of light and sound. When the dust settled, Blaze found himself staring at a perfectly circular hole melted through the tub and the floor beneath it.
He stood there, mouth agape, surveying the damage. The bathroom looked like a war zone - shattered mirror, cracked toilet, destroyed shower curtain, and a gaping hole where the bathtub used to be. Water from the broken pipes began to pool around his feet.
"Oh man," Blaze groaned, running his hands through his hair. "What am I going to tell Dad?" As if on cue, he heard footsteps rushing up the stairs, no doubt drawn by the commotion.
Blaze looked at his reflection in a remaining shard of mirror. His eyes, still shimmering with golden light, reflected a mix of awe and terror. He had power, yes, but controlling it was going to be a whole other challenge - one he needed to master quickly before he destroyed the entire house.
