𝐊𝐀𝐘𝐋𝐄𝐄 𝐃𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐒
The four of us had somehow managed to end up in a forest, in the middle of nowhere. We also had to leave our bags on the bus, so we have literally nothing. I made sure that I grabbed my dad's jacket. I refused to leave it there. It's the only thing left I have of him.
Birds chirp in the distance as we walk through this supposed forest.
"Somewhere up ahead, this turns into a satyr path,"
Grover says.
"What's a satyr path?"
Percy asks. Me and Annabeth are silent, walking beside the two.
"It's a road through the wilderness. Satyr explorers use them. Harder to track us."
Grover explains. Percy nods.
"That's great, but if we stay in the wilderness, how are we gonna find a phone?"
Percy asks. Annabeth perks up a bit.
"What do we need a phone for?"
She asks. I'm silent, thinking of how scared my dad looked in the Minotaurs fist. My step-father has him. That's more scary then anything.
"So we can call camp,"
Percy says, as if it was obvious.
"T-to get help."
"We don't need help. We're fine."
"We're fine?"
Percy asks with a light scoff.
"We haven't even gotten to Trenton, and we're wandering through a forest. I didn't even know they had forests in New Jersey, but we've found one."
Percy says. I finally speak.
"Percy, please, stop. Your giving me a headache."
"I'd say we're the opposite of 'fine'."
Percy continues, ignoring me.
"We were sent on a quest by the Oracle, by the gods. What'd you think, it would be easy? It's supposed to be hard. That's why only certain people are chosen. If we call camp, we're basically saying it was a mistake to choose us."
Annabeth says. Percy looks at Grover, then me, then Annabeth.
"...I'm completely comfortable with that. Everyone makes mistakes."
Annabeth stops, looking at Percy.
"Why are the both of you so afraid of who you are?"
She asks. I rub my forehead, and whimper a little. I cannot deal with Percy and Annabeth arguing anymore.
"Guys, please."
I beg.
"What?"
Percy asks Annabeth, yet again ignoring me.
"You know, what's interesting about this particular satyr path is its actually the one my Uncle Ferdinand took when he set out on his own quest."
Grover buts in, trying to descalate the situation. I wish I could say it worked, but it didn't.
"What was that supposed to mean, afraid of who I am? I'm not afraid."
Percy protests.
"Yes, you are. You aren't just a kid. 'Just a kid' doesn't have Hades sending top lieutenants to retrieve them. You know, you and Kaylee are a part of something so much bigger then we can understand right now. We have to move forward, whether you like it or not, whether you want to or not."
