KEN'S POV
I arrived in our house and as usual, I'm alone again. My dad is the mayor of Marikit City. It is a city in Zambales province. It is a booming city of technology, business and tourism. It is considered the L.A. of the Philippines because of our beautiful beaches beside the majestic city skyscrapers and buildings.
It is like Cebu City where urban blends with nature and rural life. I love living here but the downside is there are a lot of illegal activities hiding in the city.
I am aware of my dad's corruption. Before he became mayor, he was a businessman. We were rich and a happy family but he got too greedy. My parents separated because of it. My mom wanted to stay away from the spotlight. She also knows my dad's deepest and darkest secrets. It scared her and that drove her away.
I stayed with my dad after that, he needs me for the campaign. I need to play the part of a supportive son. When he won the election, he rarely goes home. He mostly stays in his office and does his other activities. You see, he has an obsession with gambling. He owns a lot of casinos in the city.
The reason why I always stay as long as I want in Josh's house after school is because I don't want to be alone in our house. It's lonely.
I sighed as I sat on my bed. When is this going to end? I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
I woke up as the ray of the sun hits my eye from my window. My alarm went off. It feels like I just slept for a minute. I turned my alarm off. It's 5:30am. I need to prepare for school. I took a shower and changed to my uniform.
My phone beeped, I know it is Trisha. She has been bugging me after I posted Aira's photo on X. She has major jealousy issues and a toxic attention seeker attitude. She's a b*tch. That's why I broke up with her.
Well, I don't like her. She was just a distraction from all the noises of my family problems. I wanted to forget all of those. I know, it's not right. That's why I ended it. I also used her to gain a good impression from the public since my dad is the mayor. My dad was the one that insisted it in the first place.
Josh and I have been friends since elementary. We were classmates since then. He is like a brother. His family saved me from all the darkness that I was harboring towards my dad. I would be a delinquent if it weren't for them. They showed me what a family is all about.
Then, Aira came. I admit, she is someone I didn't expect to be comfortable with. There's something in her that makes me feel intrigued. But, she is a little sister, nothing more. I don't want to cause trouble for Josh and his family even though I am so interested in her.
Her eyes on me when she is flustered is the cutest thing ever. I can't help but smile when she comes to my mind.
The door opened, finally my dad's home.
I walked to the living room and noticed that my dad is a bit tipsy. Hatred surged inside me. He went out to gamble and drink again.
"Ken, can you get me a glass?" said my dad as he opened a bottle of whiskey.
"No, you had enough. You should sleep and rest." I uttered.
My dad eyed me. "FELIP JHON SUSON, get me a glass!"
It gave me shivers when he said my full name. I took a glass from the cupboard and placed it on the kitchen counter beside him.
My dad clicked his tongue in annoyance, "Susunod ka din naman pala." (You did obey nonetheless)
I sighed, "You can't keep doing this. Have you seen the tabloids? You have a lot of scandals already."
My dad snickered, "Shut up! Are you saying you know more than me? You should mind your own business - your studies and also that relationship with the heiress of Roosevelt-Davidson Group. A marriage with their family means good business and future! You do that and you will be powerful!"
