Chapter 24: (Aaira's pov)
I woke with a splitting headache. As I dragged myself out of bed, every step felt heavy, laden with the weight of exhaustion and pain. The moonligt filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow that did nothing to ease the tension in my body.
Walking slowly, I made my way towards the dining room where I found my parents sitting at the table. Jungkook sat beside them, but I could sense the tension in his posture. Hwasa noona, his sister, and my mother-in-law and father-in-law were also present. His siblings were there too. Their eyes turned towards me as I entered, their gazes questioning and expectant.
Hwasa: Look who's here ?
I quickly bowed at all of them.
Hwasa: I've been wanting to ask a question from you for a while now, Aaira ?
Jungkook: Go on Noona, What is it ?
Hwasa:What's up with you always sleeping and fainting?
I remained silent, not having the energy or appetite to respond. My mother-in-law and father-in-law looked at me with concern, but also with a hint of disapproval.
Father: Aaira, dear, are you feeling unwell again?
My father asked, I nodded faintly, avoiding eye contact as I took my seat. The table was set with various dishes, but my mind was elsewhere, numb to the surroundings.
Hwasa: She's always like this, acting as if the world revolves around her dramas.
Her taunt stung, but I bit my lip, refusing to give her the satisfaction of a reaction. Jungkook glanced at me, but I still keep looking down.
Jungkook: Aaira, are you okay? You barely ate anything this morning.
His voice was gentle. I managed a weak smile, though it felt more like a grimace. I just nodded my head.
Aaira: I'm just not very hungry, My Lord.
My mother interjected.
Mother: It's not good for you to skip meals, Aaira. You need to take care of yourself better.
I nodded silently, why would she even care for me after criticising me in the room. My mind was still foggy, consumed by the memories and emotions that refused to settle.
Hwasa: Maybe if you stopped daydreaming all the time, you'd actually be useful around here.
Her words were like barbs, digging into my already fragile state. I clenched my fists under the table, fighting to keep my composure.
Seokjin: Excuse me, but I don't recall her asking for your opinion, Hwasa.
His response was sharper than I intended, it was surprising even myself. Hwasa scoffed, a smirk playing on her lips.
Hwasa: Touchy, aren't we? I'm just saying what everyone else is thinking.
I bit back a retort, unwilling to escalate the tension further. Instead, I focused on pushing the food around my plate, my appetite completely gone.
Suah: Aaira, dear, maybe you should see a doctor. This fainting spells of yours are becoming quite concerning.
I nodded quietly, not trusting myself to speak. Jungkook reached out, placing a hand on my shoulder.
Jungkook's Mother: What's up lately ?
Jungkook: Mom, let's not press her right now. Aaira needs some time.
His mother sighed, exchanging a glance with his father, who remained silent throughout the exchange. As dinner continued, I withdrew into myself, the conversations around me becoming distant echoes. Hwasa Noona's occasional remarks continued to sting, but I focused on breathing deeply, trying to calm myself within.
