But as she ran, she felt a strange sense of liberation. For the first time since her capture, she was in control. And as she slammed into the side of the van, gasping for breath, she knew she had a new mission: to bring down the Black Rose from the inside out.

The next few weeks were a blur of missions and double-crosses. Emily played the part of the loyal doctor, all the while feeding information to the feds. Each night, she'd sneak into the heart of the mafia's operations, her heart racing as she planted bugs and gathered intel. The fear of being caught was a constant, but the thought of her family's safety was the adrenaline that kept her going.

One evening, as she was about to leave St. James Hospital, Emily stumbled upon a heated argument between Carter and one of his lieutenants. The words 'traitor' and 'mole' were thrown around, and she knew she was close to being discovered. She had to act fast.

Emily approached them, her voice steady. "Is there a problem?" she asked, her eyes flicking between the two men.

The lieutenant sneered at her. "What do you know?" he demanded, his hand reaching for his gun.

Carter stepped in front of her, his eyes a fiery warning. "Back off," he growled. "Dr. Emily is with us."

Emily's heart raced, but she kept her face neutral. "I heard something about a shipment," she said, playing dumb. "Is everything okay?"

Carter's gaze searched hers for a moment before he nodded. "It's under control," he said, his voice tight. "But we may need to change our plans."

The tension in the room was palpable, and she knew she had to tread carefully. "How can I help?" she asked, her voice steady.

"You've done enough," he said, his eyes lingering on her for a beat too long. "For now, stay out of it."

Emily retreated to her room, her mind racing. The noose was tightening, and she needed to find a way out before it was too late. The feds had to act soon, or she'd be caught in the crossfire.

The following day, as she was examining a fake patient, her phone vibrated with an encrypted message. Her heart skipped a beat as she read the words: 'Extraction in 24 hours'. It was time.

That night, she packed her bag, her heart heavy with the reality of what she was about to do. Betraying Carter was going to be the hardest part, but she had to save her family.

As she slipped out of the hospital, the cold air biting at her skin, she couldn't help but look back at the man who had become both her saviour and her captor. Despite the chaos and fear, she felt a strange pull towards him. But she knew there was no future with a man like him.

The extraction went smoothly, the feds swift and silent as they whisked her away to safety. As she sat in the back of the car, her heart pounded with a mix of relief and dread. What would happen to her family now that she had escaped?

The next morning, news of the raid on the Black Rose's compound hit the airwaves. The feds had found the weapons shipment, thanks to her intel, and had taken down several high-ranking members. But there was no mention of Carter.

Emily sat in the safe house, her mind racing. Had he been tipped off? Was he looking for her? The fear was suffocating, but she knew she had done the right thing.

Days turned into weeks, and she waited, her every move monitored by the feds. She missed her life, her patients, and even the chaos of the mafia. But most of all, she missed him.
