Once upon a time, in the enchanting realm of Ephedia, citizens of all kinds harbored dreams far grander than the lives they led. Driven by their unquenchable desires for something more, they embarked on a journey to one of the three moons orbiting their world. This new sanctuary, they named Kingdom Lunaris—a realm without a king or queen, ruled instead by a council of five voices, each echoing the will of the five kingdoms:
- Ephedia - Xeris - Volta - Borealis - Calix
Life on Lunaris was far from easy. The flora grew as crystals, shimmering under the celestial lights. Rain was a myth, and the inhabitants lived within a magical sphere that shielded them from the vast emptiness of space. Yet, these Dreamers were undeterred by the challenges.
Over time, they transformed their harsh environment into a thriving haven. The crystalline vegetation became renowned for its exquisite taste and unparalleled nutrition, surpassing anything found in the five kingdoms. Although rain never fell, they relied on comets and received essential resources from their supportive home kingdoms, all united by this shared dream.
Lunaris became a beacon of hope, where dreams of power, adventure, and purpose flourished. The moon itself pulsed with magic, and this energy seeped into the inhabitants, turning streaks of their hair a luminous starlight white. Every child born on Lunaris bore this mark, a blessing of a Dreamer.
Beneath a sky filled with endless lights, when night fell, the people of Lunaris experienced dreams more vivid and real than ever before. These dreams for some a glimpse into the future or into another's heart. These dreams a source of inspiration and wonder
These dreams could be anything, so why would any choose to wake up?
However, not all dreams were noble. These dreams quickly became a curse, for some chose to never wake up. Forever trapped in an eternal sleep. While other, gradually lost their sanity their dreams followed them to their wake, making reality and dream impossible to differentiate. Some easily gave up, heartbroken at their disappointing reality they had such as their lover was not real and so on. A few fever, teetered between a fine line of delusion and current life.
Such power is in need for great discipline, and so the knight system was born.
This system was the heart of Lunaris, instilling discipline, purpose, and loyalty. Lunaris became the training ground for the greatest knights, who sought to hone their skills in magic, devotion, and strength. The kingdom welcomed all, acknowledging that the dream of Lunaris was built on the collective efforts of many.
To be a knight on Lunaris was an honor, but to be a Steorra was the new ultimate aspiration. The new big dream. A Steorra was a knight of the highest rank, chosen for the most critical missions and granted the privilege of protecting a royal.
During the grand choosing ceremony, each royal selected their Steorra, offering a bond that the knight could accept or decline. If they accepted, a spell bound their souls, creating a connection that transcended the physical. This bond made them soulmates, able to achieve feats beyond imagination. They moved as one, their thoughts and feelings intertwined, their powers flowing seamlessly between them, making them a force unmatched by dozens of ordinary knights.
Yet, this bond was both their greatest strength and their deepest vulnerability. To harm one was to harm the other.
Everyone wanted a soulmate, right?
In the shadows of Lunaris, envy and ambition festered. The bond of Steorra and royal was coveted, and there were those who would stop at nothing to disrupt the harmony of Lunaris for their own gain. Whispers of rebellion echoed through the crystal forests, and dark crystal magic, long thought extinct, began to stir once more.
But that is an issue for another day, for now, just now. This is the great dream.
