CHAPTER FOUR:
lunch isn't a class

y/n l/n managed to survive half of the school day without seeing her two best friends. usually she would see them in the hallways or in class. when thalia's bored, she always leaves her own class to go to y/n's. none of that happened today.

y/n and jude walked together, side by side, chatting about an upcoming party. they made jokes, made fun of each other, and their rude teachers.

"but seriously, joão is not someone you want to be around. the way he treats girls is unbelievable," jude told her, "why do you think lydia threw that drink on him? he made her crazy. what do you think?"

"don't worry, him and i are far from friends. we only talked once at a party, that's all." y/n laughed.

"good. i don't want to see you get hurt, president," jude turned to his locker. he opened it and waved, "i'll see you later?"

"we'll see." y/n gave him a small smile and continued walking.

jude called out, "after school! go to the field!"

y/n gave him a thumbs up and kept walking to her own locker. she opened the lock and grabbed her lunch from the top shelf. y/n's mom always packs her a sandwich with a snack on the side while the school provides drinks. today, she received a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a bag of goldfish. before she could slam the door, thalia appeared behind her.

"boo!" thalia spooked her.

y/n almost dropped the lunch bag, "thalia!" y/n didn't know whether to roll her eyes or happily greet her friend. "where have you been? do you know how lonely i've been?"

"i came late. my mom was still mad at me so she made me walk to school. i won't be able to use my car for a while." thalia explained with a sigh.

"oh, are you okay?" y/n hugged her.

"yeah, of course. it's only a forty minute walk." thalia replied. "do you know where noah is?"

"i was going to ask you the same thing." y/n pursed her lips. noah never misses school.

"she's not here? that's weird. doesn't she have practice today?"

y/n nodded. "soccer practice. well, i'm hungry, can we go to the caf?"

"let me call noah first. i'm worried." thalia rung her friend and placed the phone against her ear. while thalia waited, y/n covered her to avoid getting in trouble.
