It had been a month since Paige had started inhabiting Sylvia Sommers' body.
A few days ago, she cried herself to sleep after finding out about the fire that happened at the Hale house. Derek was no longer in town, but his sister Laura was still around while Peter was in a comatose state. The loss weighed heavily on her, another reminder of the life she had left behind. Her own parents had left town, a few months after her demise.
Paige spent hours poring over Sylvia's journals. She found that Sylvia's life had been mostly smooth, except for a rivalry with a girl named Lydia Martin, who was also her competitor in academics. Paige, having been the teacher's favorite in high school, was confident she could handle this rivalry. The journals were a godsend, helping her remember most things and easing her transition into Sylvia's life.
Over time, Paige became more familiar with Sylvia's body. It no longer felt like someone else's. Still, she often felt a pang of guilt for hijacking the girl's life. She vowed to live fully, for both herself and Sylvia.
In a twist of fate, Paige discovered that Sylvia's full name was Sylvia Paige Sommers.
The irony was not lost on her.
Sometimes, Paige would stare at the mirror, getting accustomed to Sylvia's features. The only similarities between them were their smile and expressive brown eyes. Sylvia had straight hair that fell just above her waist, and her skin was blemish-free and soft as butter. Adjusting to these differences took time, but she was beginning to feel at home in this new body.
While she was flipping through Sylvia's journals, she came across a passage about Sylvia's love for music. Inspired, Paige decided it was time to reconnect with her own passion.
It was a quiet evening when Paige approached Sylvia's parents in the living room. They were seated on the plush, cream-colored sofa, immersed in a conversation. She hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath and stepped forward.
"Mom, Dad, can I talk to you for a minute?" she asked, her voice steady but filled with anticipation.
Audrey and Owen looked up, their faces instantly lighting up with warm smiles. "Of course, Silver. What's on your mind?" Owen asked.
Paige shifted nervously, her fingers playing with the hem of her shirt. "I've been thinking a lot lately, and there's something I'd like to ask. I know it might sound a bit sudden, but I was wondering if I could get a cello."
Her parents exchanged surprised glances. Audrey leaned forward, her eyes filled with curiosity. "A cello? What brought this on?"
Paige bit her lip, choosing her words carefully. "Well, I've been trying to remember things from before the accident. I don't have many clear memories, but I do recall a strong connection to music. I think playing the cello might help me reconnect with that part of myself."
Owen smiled a hint of pride in his eyes. "That's a wonderful idea, Silver. Music can be very therapeutic. We'll be happy to get you a cello."
Audrey nodded in agreement. "Absolutely. If it helps you feel more like yourself, it's worth it."
Paige felt a wave of relief and gratitude. "Thank you, really. It means a lot to me."
Within a week, a beautiful cello arrived, a gleaming instrument that filled the room with a sense of possibility. As Paige ran her fingers over the strings, a sense of familiarity and comfort washed over her. She had missed playing dearly, and now, with the cello in her hands, she felt a piece of herself returning.
Paige spent hours practicing, the rich, resonant tones of the cello filling the house. Her parents often listened, their faces filled with pride and joy. The music became a bridge between her past and present, helping her navigate the complexities of her new life.
In these moments, Paige felt a deep connection to both Sylvia and herself. She was living for two people now, honoring Sylvia's memory while embracing her own second chance at life. The cello became a symbol of that promise, a reminder of her vow to live fully and authentically.
The body snatcher found solace in the music, her fingers dancing over the strings, creating melodies that spoke of hope and resilience.
