"Forgive me Father for I have sinned," I repeat the words my mother told me to."Go on my child." The priest says I could trust him. Little did my younger self know it was all lies.
"I have been finding men attractive. Like I would a female I want to kiss them and hold their hand." I confess the other side of the box is silent.
"Hello?" I ask waiting for the priest to answer me. Still, I am met with silence making me get up from my chair.
Going over the where the priest is supposed to be I find that the chair is empty. Looking confused I make my way to exit the church only to be stopped by the priest.(Trigger/ Mention of Abuse)
"Child it is brave to confess your sins. Know in your heart that the lord forgives you. You just have to have these impure thoughts beaten out of you." Priest says making my eyes widen in horror.
Holding a thick belt he raises it to lash me with it. My back hurts from the impact. My little feet try to run away from the bad man it's no use I'm trapped.
After my 'purification,' I limp to where my trailer is. My mother has been renting from a landlord. She has been short on her payments lately.
The tall landlord with a thick mustache and grey hair greets me at the door.
"Karin, you wouldn't happen to know where your mother is?" The landlord asks me my mother always tells me to lie about her whereabouts. She explains that there are bad people after her.
"No sir," I say short and sweet going inside the trailer. I am met with the smell of alcohol and cigarettes. Trying to watch my step I manage to go to the kitchen to get me something to eat.
The landlord also tip-toes around all the trash lying around the floor and asks, "It's no good that a child doesn't know where his mother is."
"I am fourteen years of age," I state grabbing myself some Oreos for dinner.
Next thing I know the landlord is in front of me his almond eyes looking at me head to toe.
"Where did your bruises come from?" He asks getting too nosy for his good.
"I fell down the flight of stairs at my school. I have always been clumsy." I say hoping the lie is convincing enough.
Landlord's lips are in a fine line still staring at me before saying, "Cookies for dinner? Why don't you come with me and I will take you out for some real food."
Mother always told me never to leave with a stranger. Landlord isn't a stranger though and he has access to my house. He seems like a nice enough guy.
"Okay." I agree to go with the man only after leaving my mother a note explaining where I am.
Most of the time she didn't care anyway.
"NO!" I wake up my heart feeling like it is about to explode.
"Shhh it's okay," Bennet says soothingly making me grab his wrist.
"What are you doing?" I ask bitterly still remembering our fight.
Bennet instantly freezes up trying to rack his brain for words to explain himself. Lucky for him he didn't have to.
"Karin, will you just stop? I didn't know who else to call. I tried Evelyn's phone but I got no answer." Matt says lecturing me like a stubborn child.
"I don't need his help or yours," I say calmly trying to get up only to fall back down.
"I see you don't need any help." Matt sarcastically says laughing. I flip him off while Bennet picks me up carrying me to his vehicle.
