In that dark place where the Silent Hand had established itself, Azriel encountered people whose values were different and whose reasoning had been worn down by hardship. Their communication was poor, shaped by a lack of knowledge and the harshness of their lives. Their food, their clothing, their rites and customs resembled those of people deprived of everything that might ennoble them, fashioned only from the little they possessed. Yet when confronted with the greatest problem among them—the most dangerous demon in the world—Azriel took upon himself the difficult task of resisting it.
He understood quickly that he would have to change. In this revolutionary chaos, he had to seek who he truly was—or better still, who he would become.
Having grown into a young man in his twenties, he returned to the kingdom transformed—almost monstrous in the eyes of the world, yet admired by the Silent Hand. He stole, he lied, he gambled, and he organized himself with cunning simply to survive. And yet, despite this life, he managed to reveal his true nature to his new companions, sharing with them his way of thinking, his ideas, and his heart. He sought to rally men from every place toward the hope of a better world. To them he appeared as an indomitable savior, bringing an unexpected and radiant joy.
But the demon whose name could not be spoken was preparing to become real. It took shape through Azriel's own actions, for he still did not recognize his divine origin—and yet he could not halt the course of destiny.
