NICKI POV

"How is she?" Steve's voice was heard as the doctor flashed a bright flashlight over my face, making me follow the light.

After placing the flashlight down, I rubbed my eyes briefly before looking at Steve. "I'm fine, Steve,"

"How is she?" He asked, looking at the doctor, causing me to roll my eyes. I've answered for the doctor for the 100th time, and he only wanted confirmation from the doctor himself.

After a half-failed successful mission, Steve dragged me to the S.H.I.E.L.D's infirmary for a checkup. I kept telling him over and over again that I was okay. However, he was too stubborn to believe me.

"She's fine, no major or minor concussion, just a headache which I can give her painkillers for; you have nothing to worry about," he said.

I smiled and looked at Steve. "See, nothing to worry about,"

The doctor then walks away. Steve looked at me, and by the expression that he had on his face, despite hearing it from the doctor, he was still worried.

"What happened out there, Nicki?" He spoke slowly as if he didn't want anyone to hear but me.

I shook my head. "Steve, I'm fine, okay. I just got a sensitive feeling from the explosions." I tried to shrug past the situation, at least have myself believe it was nothing. However, Steve's expression never left him, and he said something that made me frown.

"You utter the words please let her go multiple times,"

That was something I couldn't give an excuse for. And honestly, I had no idea that a simple explosion would trigger something so big.

The nightmares and the trauma that I am currently going through it was all new to me, and it scared me.

I honestly had no idea what to think. Or why, after all these years that have passed, am I now getting nightmares from that time?

"Nicki, if there's anything wrong, if you need a break from work-"

"No!" I spoke loudly as I noticed some eyes glancing over at me. Steve looked around, seeing them too, before I sighed, having him look back at me.

"I'm fine, I promise you."

I gave him a begged expression to at least drop the whole thing. And from Steve's expression, some of him didn't want to. The other part of him, however, didn't want to argue.

So he sighed. "Okay." He said.

I smiled at him as a thank you before the doctor returned with painkillers and a glass of water in the other.

"I recommend you stay here for at least a few hours before we discharge you." The doctor said as I took the painkillers and drank the water so it could go down my throat.
