Chapter 3
"i might have actually missed this place" i breathed out as my dad drove us onto Sycamore farm. the place i spent summers on every year as a child. We haven't been as much over the past few years due to my parents' work but they somehow managed to get the whole summer off this year.
"sorry we haven't been much recently" my mum apologized, feeling guilty for working so much.
"seriously mum don't worry its okay. We're how now that's all that matters." Gray spoke as i nodded along, agreeing.
"ugh i need to mentally prepare myself for Maddie! I groaned, throwing my head back against the seat.
"about that.." my dad starts, immediately getting my attention
"what do you mean?" Grayson asked, also curious as to what my dad is talking about.
"Maddie wont' be here this summer...at all"
"WHAT! HOW COME?" i shouted, nearly jumping out of my chair in excitement.
"Matt and Abby sent her to a boarding school last year and she's staying there for the summer" my mum explained, leaving me speechless.
"i might actually be the happiest person on the planet right now" i sighed out in complete joy.
"we thought you'd be happy" dad finished, before parking the car. Almost immediately uncle matt opened the front door and i ran out the car over to me.
"my little lee!" he exclaimed happily before wrapping his arms tightly around me. Lee was the nickname he's had for me since i was a baby. I had the best relationship with my uncle out of everyone and i felt tears brim my eyes as i realized how much i'd missed him.
"i missed you" i breathed, finally letting him go.
"me too" he responded before giving me a kiss on the head and heading over to say hi to Grayson. i quickly moved my attention over to aunt Abby, who was hugging my mum. She caught my eye and soon left my mother to come greet me.
"wow Layla you're so grown up" she noted with joy before again pulling me in for a hug.
"thanks Abby"
"c'mon c'mon come in side" she said after we parted, leading us into their beautiful farm house. They owned an estate right off the coast of Brisbane. There house was a beautiful converted barn with stables on the outside. They ran a riding school throughout the year and i LOVED riding the horses every summer. Further around the estate is a beautiful private beach and cliff top walks. It's just out of this world.
"now, Grayson you can take your normal room and so can your mum and dad but your room has changed slightly lee" my uncle starts, leading us upstairs. I walk into what was my old room to see if completely stripped back and looking like a building site.
"oh" i said, taking it all in.
"yeah. We had a leak in here a few weeks ago so it's having to be stripped down and re-done. We saved all of your stuff don't worry. Its all in boxes in your new temporary room"
I wondered where that was. As far as i was aware, these were the only bedrooms.
"you'll be taking the newly renovated annex"
"not fair" my brother exclaimed as i jumped up and down with joy. We'd seen pictures of the annex and it was stunning. It was situated closer to the beach than the actual house but not that far away.
"yes yes yes. No Maddie and now this, best summer ever"
Everyone just laughed, knowing that Maddie and i don't get along.
