Amari watched as Ken sulked over to the coach, crossing her arms and admiring him. His hair was a mess, and to him, his world seemed to be falling apart. He just couldn't seem to balance his Ultra life with his Ken Sato life.
She continued to watch him as he listened to whatever words the coach had for him, still waiting for Ami to pick up her phone.
"He makes my ovaries tingle," Amari whispered to herself.
A chirp from Emi brought her back to focus.
"I know, baby, he's just going through something right now," she told Emi, who came up to her and gently picked her up in her giant hand.
"You're right," Amari said, responding to Emi's chirps.
"Now I need to check on my other baby," she snickered. "Mina, can you play with Emi for a bit?"
"Of course, Amari," Mina replied.
"Thanks."
Emi gently let Amari down, who gave her an appreciative smile, receiving a happy chirp from Emi in return.
Amari walked over to Ken, who was sitting on a bench, still sulking. She slid down to sit beside him. "Hey, handsome," she smiled. "How are you feeling?"
Ken chuckled weakly, "Like I'm losing." He allowed himself to rest his head on her lap, letting Amari comb her fingers through his hair.
"Why's that?" Amari gently asked.
Ken's glossy eyes met hers as he let out a sigh. "Ken Sato is a joke in Japan, and being Ultraman isn't any better. I can't help it, I'm trying... It's just that I'm so focused on being—" he stammered.
"A mom?" Amari offered.
Ken sighed softly, "Yeah."
His eyes got lost in hers, and all that pent-up stress slowly faded as he focused on the golden light shimmering in her brown eyes. She sneaked a laugh at something Emi was doing.
"How do you do it?" Ken whispered.
"Do what?" Amari hummed.
"Be perfect."
"Perfect? I'm not perfect, Ken," she refuted.
Ken shook his head. "You are, effortlessly. So easily beautiful, smart, crafty... You just know what to say."
Amari thought for a moment. "Well, honestly, that's thanks to you."
Ken's brows furrowed. "What? I'm literally a mess."
"Not to me," Amari confessed. "I don't see you like that."
A soothing silence wafted in. "Then tell me what you see when you look at me, Angel."
"The best part of my life," Amari smiled. "When I look at you, I only see the best things, so naturally that only brings out my best words, my best self. You make me feel perfect, Kenji."
Ken took a moment to swallow those words, a bit in disbelief that he could bring about such feelings.
"It may all seem hectic now, but you're doing a great job, Ken. Even if you don't see it. Your best—being Ultraman and even Ken Sato—may look different on different days, and that's fine. Because you and I both know you are doing your best. That's far better than half a heart."
"I—"
"Don't overthink it," Amari quickly added, causing Ken to laugh.
"No, I was only going to say, I love you." Those words flowed effortlessly off his tongue, causing Amari to melt.
"And I love you too," Amari smiled.
*RINGGGG*
Despite the ringing of the phone, Ken's eyes didn't leave Amari's, nor did Amari's leave Ken's.
"That's probably Ami," Amari whispered. "Aren't you going to get that?"
Ken hummed, "... Yeah."
Ken reluctantly pulled his gaze away from Amari and reached for his phone. As he answered it, Amari continued to gently stroke his hair, offering silent support.
"Hello?" Ken said, his voice still carrying the remnants of their emotional moment.
"Mr. Sato, it's Ami," the voice on the other end responded. "You called?"
"Yeah, yeah," Ken rumbled. Amari tried to slip away, but Ken pulled her back, mouthing, "Where are you going?"
Amari's brows furrowed. "Giving you privacy," she mouthed back. "Not like I want to hear you talking to other women."
Ken scoffed softly. "Stay," he mouthed.
Amari rolled her eyes but sat back down.
"Ah, hello?" Ken continued, his attention divided.
And so, Amari stayed, watching Ken chat with Ami. Though their exchanged words didn't reach her ears, she was too busy admiring the man Ken Sato was.
