Alayna's day began as a blur of familiar chaos. Instead of heading to her university lectures, she found herself navigating the crowded streets of South London, her thoughts as tangled as the traffic. Her destination was Belmarsh, a high-security prison where her brother Craig was serving yet another sentence. This wasn't the first time she'd had to visit him there, and she doubted it would be the last. Craig's life of gang violence and drugs was a world Alayna refused to be a part of or condone.
Driving through the city, Alayna felt a pang of irritation. Craig had always managed to keep her safe, a fact that everyone in South London knew and respected. Men, women, and even children feared him, and that protection extended to her. It made her scoff; she didn't need or want his kind of protection.
Before pulling into the parking garage of the prison, Alayna pulled over, reached into her bag, and took a pill she had been taking for her ADHD since she could remember. It helped her focus, something she desperately needed today. After swallowing the pill with a swig of water, she continued her drive into the small, heavily guarded parking lot.
As soon as she arrived, at least ten guards approached her car, their hands on their belts, ready to draw their weapons. Alayna sighed and rolled her eyes as she got out of the car. "Relax," she said, her voice steady. "It's just me."
The guards visibly relaxed, their hands dropping away from their weapons. Alayna furrowed her eyebrows, annoyed by the over-the-top reaction. "Let's get this over with, boys. Maybe I can make it to my last lecture of the day."
After a thorough search, the guards led her through security and into a small, sparse room. It contained only two chairs, a small table, and two bags of crisps along with two bottles of water. Alayna sat down and began munching on the snacks, waiting for her brother to arrive.
Minutes later, the door opened, and Craig was brought in, his hands cuffed. The guards seated him and removed his cuffs, then looked to Alayna for confirmation. She nodded, and they left the room. The moment they were alone, Alayna stood up and slapped Craig across the face.
Craig's reaction was immediate. He stood up, his face inches from hers, anger flashing in his eyes. "Do that again and I'll be in here for another 25," he whispered, his voice low and dangerous.
Alayna scoffed, unafraid. "I'm missing my classes because of you," she said, shoving him away. Craig rolled his eyes and sat back down, and she followed suit.
"Listen," Craig began, his tone serious. "You need to stay away from Tayo. I'll be out soon. Shit is about to start moving."
Alayna rolled her eyes again. "And why do I have to listen to you? And I don't know who told you that, but you're not coming out soon. I'll be damned. You're ruining my life, Craig. Imagine what Mum would think of you fucking up your life. It's not too late to finish uni—"
Craig cut her off. "Fuck that. I'm too deep into the streets, Alayna. You know that."
Alayna sighed deeply, feeling the weight of the conversation. "What else do you need, Craig?"
Craig reached into his pocket and pulled out a gold watch. "Give this to my girl for me?"
Alayna made a face. "Which one?" she asked, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
"Stop fucking around. Shar." he replied.
"You need to leave her alone, Craig," Alayna said, her voice firm.
Craig got angry fast and started "And you need to stop fucking Tayo. Yeah you think I ain't heard? Little Laynie let a pussio take her virginity." He mocked.
"Leave that childish shit in the past. He's talking crazy, thinking he runs shit now that i'm in here. Imagine what would happen if gang knew you were giving pussy to the opps. That's what he is now."
