Alayna woke up with a start, finding herself in a delivery van with the same driver she had seen before. "Alayna, wake up! Alayna, wake up!" The man was shaking her. She bolted upright, panic setting in.
"So you've resorted to kidnapping me now?" she screamed.
The man held up his hands in defense. "I haven't kidnapped you, Alayna. You're dreaming. I think we both are. I'm pretty sure you're the one doing it, not me."
Alayna looked around and realized time was frozen. She pinched herself and tried to put her finger through her hand, a common test for lucid dreaming. Her finger didn't go through.
"I'm Michael." he said, extending his hand. She ignored it.
"Let's cut to the chase. We both have powers. Don't know where they came from." Michael explained. "My powers teleported me into the future, where I saw the death date of my fiancée. I don't know how she dies only when. In the future, all of us are working together."
Alayna stared at him, disbelief clouding her features. "This is insane. I already have enough shit to deal with."
"Do you know a Rodney, Sabrina, or Andre?" Michael asked.
She thought for a moment. "I might know a Sabrina. My brother's 'girlfriend's' sister. Granted, I have no idea what she looks like."
Michael nodded. "It's worth a try." He scribbled down an address, the three names, and his phone number. "I'm waking up. Meet me there at 2 pm today, and we'll go from there."
"Michael, don't leave me here!" she shouted as she woke up. It was morning, and she was still in the hospital waiting room with Tayo. She looked at him sleeping and smiled a little. She got up, ran to the nurse at the desk, and asked for a pen and paper to write down the information Michael had given her.
"Rodney, Andre, Sabrina." she repeated aloud while writing.
"Yeah?" the nurse at the desk responded.
Alayna looked up. "Your name is Sabrina?"
"Yeah. Are you alright?" As soon as they made eye contact, their eyes glowed.
"Who are you, and what's going on?" Sabrina asked, clearly flustered.
"Hold on, hold on, I'm not a stranger. Are you Shar's sister? I'm Craig's little sister." Alayna said, trying to keep Sabrina calm.
"Was that supposed to make it better?" Sabrina asked, skeptical.
"No, my brother is a piece of shit, and I tell him to leave Shar alone every time I see him when he was locked up." Alayna explained.
"Was?" Sabrina inquired.
"The piece of shit came out of prison yesterday just to terrorize me and my boyfriend." Alayna said, nodding toward Tayo, who was still asleep. "Listen, I'm on a time crunch." She handed Sabrina her number. "Please call me later tonight."
Without waking Tayo, she headed to her car, still covered in Tiny's blood, and drove to the address Michael had given her. She parked and got out, pacing frantically. People gave her odd looks, and she realized she was still in yesterday's bloodstained clothes. She decided to wait in the van, but the door handle didn't work. She touched it, took a deep breath, and her eyes glowed yellow, then blue. The car started. "Shit." She got in and waited, and within minutes, Michael appeared beside her without warning.
"SHIT!" they both screamed.
"Holy shit, Michael, you scared me!" she exclaimed, rolling her eyes.
"Sorry!" he said, looking at her. "You look—"
"Disgusting. I know. My brother shot my boyfriend's homeboy and almost killed him right in front of me" she explained.
Michael's face fell. "I've never done this before, but I can teleport you wherever you live so you can get freshened up."
Reluctantly, Alayna agreed and began to say her address. Before she finished, they were already there. She hit him on the arm.
"You could've warned me!" she whisper-yelled.
"Sorry!" Michael said.
"If you want anything, help yourself. My flat is a mess. After I found out about my powers, I haven't been back since." He went into the kitchen and noticed the fried microwave. Alayna smiled and went to shower, then packed some clothes and necessities. When she returned, Michael was eating grapes.
"Ready." she said.
Michael nodded and teleported them back to the van. "Stay in here; I have to make a call." he said, and she nodded. She turned on the van and put her phone on charge. She had three missed calls from Tayo and called him immediately. He answered on the first ring.
"Laynie, you alright?" Tayo asked, concerned.
"I'm alright, Tayo. I just went home to get some stuff. How is Tiny?" she replied.
"His mum is there, and she said the doctors told her he'll be okay. I'm at the estate, but I'm going later with my boys to see Tiny." he said.
"Alright, stay safe, please. I'll see you soon." Alayna said.
"I love you." Tayo said, sending shivers down her spine.
"I love you too." she replied, smiling, then hung up. Michael returned to the van.
"Mind if we pay a quick visit to your boyfriend?" Michael asked.
"It isn't a good time. I have to explain everything to him first. Trust me." Alayna said.
Michael nodded, though he didn't seem to fully understand.
"I think I found Sabrina. It's crazy. She's a nurse at the hospital and is my brother's girlfriend's sister. She looked a bit flustered when I left, but hopefully, she'll call me." Alayna said.
Michael sighed. "Now, Rodney and Andre." Then Michael's phone rang, and Alayna quickly glanced at it. The caller ID said "Mum."
"Shoot. I forgot I had to take my mum somewhere. You have my cell," Michael said before teleporting out of the van.
