It had been years since he graduated from university. A computer science major was in high demand. Day in and day out he worked in his government office. The work was only exciting because he could run simulations for the men in the National Security Apparatus. Every so often when things break bad in a conflict zone, analysts would come to his office and ask for the ideal attack pattern on the enemy. He would lead them to a secure part of the building and input all that data they gave him onto the computer. Spy satellites were actually really advanced plus with new drone mapping technology nothing on the battlefield was secret. As he finished inputting everything into the system, he would order the computer to start the simulation.

They would sit in that room and let the computers generate the perfect attack path. Which operations are the most effective and would lead to the least casualties. Once it is done the analyst would take the data and he would wipe the computers. Honestly, it was a bit sick watching the computer coldly calculate how much death and destruction the American military can cause, but he was not paid to complain.

He tended to his computer diligently. His social life suffered as a result. He kind of became reclusive, because he could not exactly talk to other people about what he does. Also, he did not have any friends anymore anyways. Well, he did have one or two people he still contacts over Discord but that still was few and far between. He looked down at his phone. It was 11:20 AM. He sighed as he looked back at his computer. Lunch could wait until he finished writing this line of code.

When he went to the canteen, he checked his phone. No new messages. It was a normal sight that he got used to. People usually don't contact him when he is at work anyways. He grabbed some food and walked back into his office. There was no need for him to talk to anyone, so he sat alone looking at his computer monitor. He had been doing a lot more work for the administration. There was a rumor going around the office that the President had died weeks ago, and the State Department had stepped into the role of running the country. He, personally, did not believe that this could happen. It was borderline impossible that the State Department as powerful as they were could run a fake White House but what does he know? The President had not been seen in public for months.

A notification on his phone suddenly drew his attention away. It was a friend that he had from university. The message was simple, but it told him enough. Cardin Ace will be in town, the message read. That would be a nuisance for his commute. If the presidential candidate was visiting his town to do a rally security would ruin the freeways. With a sigh he checked his watch again and went back to work.

As he drove home, the traffic was something nasty. People were already going to Cardin Ace's political rally, which clogged the interstate. However, he realized that complaining would not help the situation and so he sat in his car waiting for the traffic to ease up a little so he could make it home.

As he pulled into the driveway of his house, he looked at his house and did not get out of the car. He just sat there in the driver's seat staring at the empty house in front of him. It annoyed him to know end. It was just a silent reminder that he had no one anymore. Everyone was gone either due to illness, or a range of other factors beyond his control. With a sigh he opened the car door and walked into his house.

The framed picture of his family filled him with the dread that he would never see them again. He walked into the kitchen and took out yesterday's leftovers to reheat. Dinner was more enjoyable than usual as he distracted himself by watching Vtubers.

"I could just watch the rally tomorrow if I want some excitement." He said to himself, thinking of the next distraction he could throw himself into.

As the next day started, he was sitting in his office chair typing away at the keyboard. The hours ticked by as he continued to work. Today's work was exceptionally grueling. He stepped outside when he took his lunch break. He checked X on his phone. Apparently, Ace starts to speak in an hour. He quickly finished his food and went back to work. Maybe if he finished early, he could catch the tail end of the speech. As the hours passed, he continued to work.

The reflection of the sun off of his monitor caught his attention. He turned to close the blinds to his office but as he saw the scene outside his window, he stopped to enjoy the view. He seldom had the opportunity to appreciate the flag of the United States flying in the breeze with the city skyline in the background. The city in the distance really provides a good contrast to the flag waving in the wind. If he was a photographer, he would have taken a picture right then and there. A small smile formed on his face as he walked up to the window.

The explosion was definitely unexpected. It came from the location of Ace's rally, but before he could think about that any further, he felt the shockwave smash into him. As he slammed into the wall of his office, he felt it give out. He fell through the hole in the wall as glass from the window punctured his skin painting him red with blood. Before he could even react, the fireball of the explosion caught up. Time seemed to slow down as he began to be vaporized.

"They really just nuked him." He thought to himself as the flames consumed him entirely.
