...What the hell is this?
"Ok, so I might've lied about how much people are in the club."
In the empty classroom, with all the tables and seats placed into a small corner of the room, stood a small circle of chairs, roughly seven chairs placed all facing each other.
Sat in one of the chairs was another student, this one with long and noticeably dyed red hair. His uniform was also oddly colored, almost a dark maroon color with a tint of black, against the regular Black uniform that the students were required to wear."Yo!"
"Then there's this asshole.." Okawa blurted, as the man let out a wide ear to ear grin.
"Hey! You're the asshole here, inviting people without my knowledge."
"I'm the president, Jackass!"
Okawa busied his hands by wiping the window and closing the door behind the two, meanwhile the boy stared deeply into Yuki's figure. It was the same way Yuki stared at nature when she was on the rooftop, but different.Yes, everything was different for her.
"Who's the lucky lady?"
"My name is Yuki Hayakawa. It is my pleasure to be here."
The boy cracked a smile, heartwarming in intent.
"Well, very nice to meet you! I'm Asu Rhed, the Acting Vice President of the Psychology Club. Trust me, if it weren't for this jerk, I wouldn't be here for a minute longer."Rhed rose from the seat, walking toward the pile of desks in the corner. Okawa's attention turned toward Rhed as well, watching him reach his hand into the pocket of one of the desks.
"Now that there's three of us, I think that's ample opportunity for us to recruit more people. The proper way to do that.. is with these!"
Rhed pulled out two monstrous stacks of fliers, all of which had Psychology Club's logo plastered atop them. However, this was clearly too much for the three of them to hold."Rhed."
"Yeah?"
"You don't seriously plan for us to distribute ALL of that, do you?""Yeah! The time is right, especially since around this time, cliques are starting to form. If we can expose clusters of friends to the Psychology Club, we'll pull lots of people in one motion!"
Okawa struts over and takes a peek at the posters Rhed printed.
"..Wait.""Ok, I took some creative liberties with the logo-"
"RHED! The logo is incomplete, I told you about this, I told you not to print until the logo was fully complete!"
"If we're being honest, you suck at drawing. I thought this was done.""..BITCH!"
Okawa wrapped his arm around Rhed's neck, locking him in a tight headlock. Rhed was lucky enough to lean forward instinctively, forcing the two to fall onto the ground, but Okawa's headlock was too tight.
Okawa lied atop Rhed, pulling his head back, as Rhed kicked his legs spontaneously."CALL ME UNCLE!" "JUST FINISH THE LOGO RIGHT NOW!"
"NO! NO CALL ME UNCLE!" "I KNOCKOUT BEFORE I TAP OUT!"Watching these two squabble was a highlight of Yuki's day, but she couldn't help but feel like she was losing time. The psych club was the only reason she decided to stay, but the club only consists of three people. If they didn't get more members, she would begin to feel.. sick again. Something has to happen.
"I'll make the new logo."
The two stopped fighting, as Rhed threw Okawa off his back.
"For all of the posters? Do you have that time?""We can plaster the logo on one of the posters and then print more."
Okawa was sold, as per the look on his face. However, Rhed wasn't as easily swayed.
"Wait, wait, wait. How do we know you're good at drawing?"
"You'll have to trust me."Rhed's face turned sour, before returning to a face of neutrality.
"We can do this today. I don't have a first class, so I'll stay in this classroom with you while you finish the Logo so I can print it. You can afford to skip one class, right?""I guess.."
8:15.
Yuki was silently thinking, having not drawn anything since she was a 2nd year.
Rhed laid bare on the floor, staring straight up at the ceiling above him. He seemed deep in thought.Yuki knew she wanted to talk to this new face, but she was nervous. Rhed seemed like he was content with the life he lived, or at least he didn't seem as damaged as her. What if she does something wrong? What if he turns out like her?
"Erm.. what do you want the design to look like?"
"If I'm being honest, I don't know what Okawa was going for. It looked like a brain, then a tumor, then a scribble. After a while of his redraws, I thought he was scribbling out the old designs of the Logo. Turns out, they were the logo."The two let out a heartwarming laugh, a shared moment Yuki won't forget. Yuki picked up the pen she dropped, deciding she would try to make something new. Something different.
"I'll try making something."
"Yuki, please do. You're our only hope."
She let out a small chuckle before letting her mind wander about what Rhed had just said.
Only hope, right? Where was that from..?
Star Wars?
Wait, when did they say it? Was it the Hologram thing? How do those work?Wait.
She sketched an outline of a disc on the floor, similar to the CD that Star Wars came out on. From there, she drew a light hologram of the Brain, cartoonish and boldly lined in appearance.
"Y'know, that's how he's always been."
"Who?"
"Okawa. He swears he's good at everything, maybe he's coping. Maybe he's so bad at something that he decided to be good at everything."
Yuki looked down at him, seeing him sat upright, staring at the window shining light into the classroom."Why does that bother you?"
"Because who would want to love that kind of person, someone who lies about who they are? When I met Okawa back in my junior high years, he was kind and honest. Something happened along the way, and now he tries so desperately to be something he's not."
"And what might that be?""Good enough. He doesn't realize he's good enough for love, but he'll never stop chasing that perfection."
Yuki had put down her pen after hearing that. Rhed picked up the poster and smiled.
"This is perfect. Great job, Yuki! I knew I could trust you!"
Yuki hadn't looked up from her empty stare at the desk.
She felt empty again, the same way she did before coming to the 'club'. But more so than anything, she felt disappointed.Do people talk about me like that as well?
No.. Why is that what I worry about?
Why am I so selfish? Why did I think about how others speak about me before anything else?"Yuki, you ok?"
"I think you should be patient with him. I understand he's been like this a long time, and that he's changed, but he is capable of good."
"That's what I'm trusting in you next. I know I can trust you to change him."Rhed strolled out of the clubhouse, making his way leisurely to the library, as Yuki allowed Rhed's words to ruminate.
Trust? Me?
...What if I let his trust down? No, I can't think like that.
I can't let him down. After the bell for break rang, Okawa made it back to the clubhouse, seeing Yuki glancing at the sun and forest outside the school.
Okawa drops his uniform on the table, pulling out the chair and taking a seat."Yuki, you ok?"
"Are you good at keeping promises, Okawa?"
"Huh? I'd say I am, yes. Why do you ask?""Then I am too."
Then I am too.
