The next two weeks were quiet. Eliott, Aiden, and Mr. Sawyer were out constantly and came back late at night when I was already in bed. I always heard them when they came. They would turn on the kitchen lights that entered my room. Various times they would open my door to check if I was there. It was weird at first and thought about confronting them, asking them why they were doing such a thing without my permission especially when they suspected that I was sleeping but then I remembered their promise to protect me and I guess they had enough experience to know of the probability of someone getting kidnapped that they wanted to make sure I was safe in bed. So I stayed quiet and whenever I noticed them open my door, I lay still because I wasn't sure how else to act.
My day-to-day life now was surrounded by spending the whole day in my room when I was done with my tasks and I wasn't at school. I couldn't go out for obvious reasons (strict instructions from Mr. Sawyer) and spending time elsewhere in the house felt awkward. Aiden showed me their home library and the game room and told me I could use the TV in the living room but doing any of that--walking around the house so freely--felt wrong. So I didn't. Instead, I had a lot of thinking time on my hands, I read sometimes, and tried drawing when I had inspiration.
I was now sitting on the desk in my room which I had moved to face the window, a sketch book laid on the desk, a drawing pencil in my hand, and a white eraser next to my moving hand. I stole glances outside, trying to capture every detail to it. There was only plants and a couple of trees in front of me but regardless, I thought it was worthy of being put into paper.
I just wished I had colored pencils in order to bring out the real beauty of the scenery.
A knock on the door makes me stop my movements. I look at the door with a confused frown, wondering who it could be. No one has knocked on my door since those two weeks ago.
I get out of the chair and go to open the door. "Mr. Sawyer," the name comes out instantly in surprise.
He smiles. "Hey, how are you?"
"I... uh," I have to pause. This man hasn't spoken to me in two weeks, has barely given a glance at me, and now he was acting like nothing had happened? "I'm fine, I guess."
"I heard you haven't been out of your room much," he says with a sympathetic grin. He felt bad for me, obviously, and maybe I was a little glad that he felt that way.
"Yeah, well, there's nowhere else to be."
"You could use the pool or the game room or the library," he suggests.
I sigh. It feels like I always have to remind them the same thing. "Mr. Sawyer, I'd like to remind you that I'm an employee here. Employees don't normally get to freely walk around the house they work in when it doesn't involve completing tasks. Do the rest of your staff receive the same offer as me?"
He opens his mouth but I speak before he can. "Of course, I mean anyone beside Mr. Lewis and Ms. Angela."
He shakes his head. "Well, I suppose you're right but usually none of my employees are under house arrest and in danger."
Why did I feel a little disappointed about his response? I guess I had felt a little special by the way that they had treated me, all of the offers that they had made to make me feel more comfortable. I should've known that they're just humans, feeling guilt for the danger they had put me in.
I look down at my feet. "Right..."
"I came to ask you if you wanted to go out? We're all free right now and we don't want you to feel so... trapped. Under our protection, you can rest assure that nothing will go wrong."
I perk up at this and even look up to smile at him in excitement. When was the last time I had been able to hang out? The time I had gone to Jack in the Box with Liam almost a month ago? "R- Really? You want to take me?"
He chuckles. "Of course. I wouldn't be here otherwise." He shrugs. "We were just planning to go to a movie or something. Or if you would rather just walk around the mall that's fine too. Going to a movie would be sitting in a dark room for approximately two hours, which wouldn't be much of a change."
I nod, smiling. I was smiling too much. "You're right about that. Um, when do you guys wanna head off?"
"Now if you're ready," he says after glancing at his watch.
I was in jeans and a hoodie which I thought was pretty appropriate for a casual outing. "Yes, I'm ready," I tell him, heading to grab my wallet.
"You don't need that." I hear him step into my room, noticing the item I was reaching out for.
"I'm not letting you pay for me," I tell him, turning to look at him.
He walks over to me. "You have to. Things go the way I want around here, remember?" He replies with a smirk, placing his hand over mine and guiding it to leave my wallet on my desk, where it previously was.
He was a bit too close for comfort. I could smell the intense scent of his cologne and the way he looked down at me made my heart beat faster and made my face start to feel hot. I look away before I have the urge to stare into his fascinating green eyes forever or worse, to lean in and just put my lips on his. This man was dangerous and there was one more than one reason for this.
"We should go." He takes a step back, I look at him, he was still smirking.
Was he playing with me?
He turns around before I can ask.
I forget to grab my wallet again, following him blindly through the halls of the house until we reach his room. He goes inside, leaving the door wide open. I take it as an invitation but decide to not take a step inside. Instead, I stand outside, hearing everything that was going on. Well, I couldn't hear well, there was mostly mutters but I could hear the three distinct voices of the men discussing something.
I wondered if Eliott was a bit mad due to the invitation that they had made me. There was no doubt that he didn't exactly favor me. On the other hand, I was sure that it had been Aiden's idea for me to come along. With him being the most guilty and all, I was sure he was the one that brought it up.
"Why didn't you come in?" Aiden asked as the three of them made their way outside their room, Mr. Sayer closing the door behind the,.
I shrug. "It would feel weird."
He frowns. "Why?"
I watched as Eliott took his hand and we began walking, following the path to go outside. "Well..." I try to find the words on how to explain. "A bedroom is intimate, I guess, so I would feel awkward and out of place if I was the only odd one out in there."
"Odd one out?"
"Well, yeah." I laugh, mostly due to the awkwardness. He should be able to understand, right? "You guys are together, you share that bedroom, that... bed. Wouldn't it feel weird to just have a stranger in there? A place that is kind of a, I don't know, safe haven for you."
He looks down, thinking for a second. "I guess you are kind of right," he mumbles. "But you're not a stranger to us Jordan, far from that actually."
He takes my hand and I let it rest there for a second before prying it off. The warmth of his hand felt nice but it wasn't right. Especially when his boyfriends surrounded us, Mr. Sawyer on my right and Eliott on Aiden's other side, their hands still together.
I had to glance at them but neither of them seemed particularly bothered. It was probably because they knew how friendly Aiden was and above all, they trusted him. They wouldn't care about such a meaningless action, of course.
I smiled at Aiden as a thank you for the comfort but why did he look so hurt?
I look away, put my hands in my pockets and follow them to their car silently.
