83. ZOMBIE, AND THE LADY

THE

whistle churns in your ear, familiarly loud as always and just as shrill as you recall.

All the thoughts in your mind—Bianca, and her strangely hostile words, Mariele, and her friendly past with such a demeaning woman, Barou, and his strange obsession with Isagi Yoichi, and their master, with his squinted stares and wide-eyed looks—they all dissipate within a split second when your brain is permanently rewired and focused on the game in front of you.

You don't even see the strange look you receive from the boy beside you—Hiori Yo—with his bright cyan gaze and long lashes that reach up to his brows—you're far too enamoured.

The ball is methodically passed through both Kaiser and Ness in a one-two formation—however, they manage to utilise Grim to get past multiple defenders with such a quick flick of their feet. You've managed to be caught in awe at the passes Ness—the magician—dishes out towards his striker.

No matter how many times you see it—it's a mystery how Alexis Ness always manages to impress you.

Grim sends a flying kick heading over the field—it flies past Ness, who acted as bait to lure the defenders to the side—and goes right to its true target—Kaiser. They snapped Ubers' formation in half by making Ness run from the midfield and were able to create a huge open spot for Kaiser to shoot.

It seems all too easy, and for a moment, you think they may score a goal this early in. It's unpredictable—even for you, who is their technical manager and enforcer of all these strategies. It's all so quick you hardly even see the pale, slender figure that slinks up in front of Kaiser.

He steals the ball right from under Kaiser's feet and swerves it away from him with pinpoint accuracy.

The way he's positioned is near you, so you manage to catch a glimpse of what he says. "Yo, Michael. So, you're now worth 300 million? Guess that makes you the ace."

Brown hair, sunken eyes, a bright red tattoo of a pair of lips drooling on the back of his neck to pair with his lithe pale body—this man, for all intents and purposes, seems to be inhuman. He flashes a grimy grin full of bright gold—one that makes Kaiser click his tongue and avert his gaze as if it pained him to stare at his artificial smile.

The unhealthily pale man's smile seems to widen even further as he lips his thin lips and says, in a gruff and gritty voice, "Delicious."

Just who is this man? He hunches over like his spine does not serve a function and he grins like he does not have a care in the world, for others or himself, for better or for worse—and you simply cannot get a read on his ultraviolet eyes. Your first thought is that he looks rather rugged., like how a stray would seem to be after getting picked off the streets—or how a lost cub would seem after straying too far away from home.
