"Here, Bokuto-san. Let me help you", Akaashi says, tilting his head to the side of the court, interrupting their warm-up for their next practice match.
"But- Agaashi! The match's about to start!".
"You've had your left wrist sore since that block you did. I've seen you moving and rubbing it for the last ten minutes. You need a bandage, and if it keeps hurting, you'll need to see a doctor", the blue-eyed man continued as he kept walking.
Bokuto pursed his lips but in the end followed him.
"... It's not even that bad...", the latter pouts.
"I'm sure it's not", Akaashi answers with a plain tone, knowing that if he acted like nothing happened, Bokuto would be complaining all day about this hopefully minor injury. He grabs the bandages from the first aid kit and offers his hand to Bokuto.
"Here".
Bokuto keeps pouting, but this time not so much out of self-consciousness about his injury.
It was because his heart began drumming in his chest.
He extends his left hand and Akaashi takes his wrist, gentle but steady. He begins covering his wrist and part of his forearm with bandages, seemingly focused on the task.
At least, Bokuto hoped so. If not, Akaashi'd definitely notice he was freaking out.
Oh, god, what if Akaashi notices his pulse? His sweaty hands? What if he realizes he's breathing so fast?
Wait, was he even breathing?
He realized just then he wasn't.
He took a sudden, deep breath in, and sighed sharply after to hide how loud it sounded.
"You know I can do it", Bokuto murmurs.
"I know, but let me", Akaashi replies, still focused.
Bokuto was about to explode. Akaashi was finishing already, but those few seconds felt like minutes to him. Being this close, it was hard to ignore Akaashi's long eyelashes, his eyes, his slightly furrowed brow, the way his lips pursed a bit making them look a bit thicker...
Jesus, he could go on and on.
"There", Akaashi cuts Bokuto's trail of thought, making him boggle a bit. He then gently squeezes Bokuto's hand in between his, giving him a warm yet a bit awkward smile before getting up.
"Th-Thank you!", Bokuto blurts out while practically jumping off of the bench.
Akaashi laughs a bit and Bokuto nearly melts.
"Let's go. Final match of the day".
"Sure!", Bokuto shouts, apparently remembering they were on a training camp. "But hey, you can toss to me for a while after, right? You said it earlier!".
"Of course, Bokuto-sa-".
"YES!! LET'S GOOO! HEY HEY HEY!".
The ace ran onto the court, forgetting for a while how deep this apparent infatuation towards his best friend was becoming.
He was also clueless of the way Akaashi was looking fondly at him, trying to fight the very same feelings.
