Percy Jackson was in his apartment, meticulously cleaning up as he prepared for his sister's visit. Diana had called the previous day, informing him that she would be coming to Gotham City to spend a few days with him. Percy was excited, though slightly nervous. He loved his older sister dearly, but their lives were so different. She lived in luxury while he struggled to make ends meet. Regardless, her visits were always a bright spot in his life.
That morning, Percy was up early, his apartment spotless. He anxiously awaited Diana's arrival, his mind racing with thoughts of their time together. He heard the low rumble of a car engine outside and peeked through the window, eyes widening at the sight of a sleek Aston Martin DB12 pulling up.
Diana stepped out of the car, her presence commanding attention even in casual attire. She was beautiful and graceful, her aura exuding strength and confidence. Percy rushed out to greet her, wrapping her in a tight hug.
"Diana! It's so good to see you!" he exclaimed.
Diana smiled warmly, returning his embrace. "It's good to see you too, little brother. How have you been?"
"Busy," Percy admitted, "but managing. Come on in."
They spent the next hour catching up, Percy filling her in on his school life and jobs, carefully omitting his activities with Black Mask. Diana listened attentively, her heart aching at the thought of her son, though he didn't know it, enduring such hardships. She wished she could do more to help him, but she understood his fierce independence.
As the time for school approached, Diana insisted on driving Percy. "You deserve a break from all the walking and buses. Besides, I want to see where you go to school."
Percy reluctantly agreed, secretly thrilled to ride in her luxury car. They headed out, the Aston Martin gliding smoothly through the streets of Gotham. As they approached Gotham Academy, Percy spotted Artemis walking down the street, her pace quick as if she were running late.
"Hey, Diana, that's my friend Artemis. Can we give her a ride? I don't want her to be late," Percy asked.
Diana glanced at Artemis, immediately recognizing her as the young heroine from the Young Justice team. She nodded, pulling over to the curb. "Of course, Percy. Let's not keep your friend waiting."
Percy rolled down the window and called out to Artemis. "Hey, Artemis! Need a ride to school?"
Artemis looked surprised but relieved. She walked over and leaned down to see who was in the car. Her eyes widened slightly when she saw Diana, but she quickly masked her reaction. "Thanks, Percy. That would be great."
She climbed into the back seat, and Diana resumed driving. Percy chatted with Artemis, oblivious to the silent exchange of glances between her and Diana. The two women recognized each other immediately but chose to remain discreet for Percy's sake.
"So, Artemis, how's school treating you?" Diana asked, her tone friendly but with a hint of curiosity.
Artemis smiled politely. "It's good, thanks. Just trying to keep up with everything."
Percy, oblivious to the underlying tension, chimed in. "Artemis is pretty awesome. She's good at everything she does."
Artemis felt a pang of guilt, thinking of their last encounter at the warehouse. "Thanks, Percy. You're not so bad yourself."
They arrived at Gotham Academy, and Diana parked the car. Percy was eager to get to class, but Diana held him back for a moment. "I'll be picking you up after school, okay?"
"Sure thing, Diana. Thanks for the ride," Percy said, giving her another quick hug before heading off to his first class.
Artemis lingered for a moment, turning to Diana. "It's good to see you, Diana."
