As Valentine walked through the halls of West Valley High, a persistent debate raged on within his mind, overshadowing his every thought whenever he tried to change the topic. Throughout the entire weekend, he had grappled with the decision regarding Miguel, and the ongoing struggle had become increasingly burdensome for him, causing a sense of frustration and unease.
The final bell rang, causing the boy's train of thought to vanish as he let out a quiet swear. With quick strides, he had made it to the classroom just before the door had closed, much to his relief. But his relief disappeared when he heard the students' laughter. Their sights were all on Sam, who had a used Blow Pop attached to her pink sweater.
"Sam," Valentine whispered to her as he took the open seat next to her. When her gaze arrived on him, he nodded to the lollipop stuck on her clothed shoulder. A small scoff escaped the LaRusso girl as she pulled the Blow Pop off. After turning to those who laughed, "Thanks for the Blow Pop, guys. Really never gets old."
"Just ignore them, okay? They're all miserable and hop on the bandwagon whenever something "interesting" happens in this school," Valentine gave her a comforting nudge of his shoulder to hers. Despite the act, she remained annoyed, which Valentine had expected.
"Hey, everybody. Who let the pigs out? I did because I ordered the fetal pigs," Valentine grimaced when he realized what their school assignment for class would be today. "But seriously, get in your groups."
"Sam, I am not dissecting a pig," Valentine announced. When Sam gave him a look, he responded with, "I eat meat but I am not cutting open a baby pig."
Sam let out a noise of annoyance before her eyes fell on a duo a couple of rows behind them. Valentine had not even noticed Demetri and Miguel, but the latter had. He could not keep his eyes off the boy ever since he had entered the class. A smirk crept onto her lips before she stood up and made her way to Mr. Palmer's desk. "Mr. Palmer, my partner and I are having a disagreement about who should cut open the pig," she came up with an excuse. "Could we maybe switch with a group?"
Without hesitation, Mr. Palmer nodded his head and looked at those in the classroom. "Who wants to swap partners with Samantha and Valentine? These little piggies don't want to cut another little piggy."
"Wait, what-" Valentine was cut off by the LaRusso girl, who then shushed him. But her confidence began to dwindle when silence came after Mr. Palmer's words. "Don't all volunteer at once," the man remarked. No one said anything.
"We'll switch," Valentine turned to see who had volunteered and his eyes widened out of shock. Miguel had been the one to speak, lifting up a pen. Everyone's eyes came onto the boy out of surprise, including Demetri, his own partner. The Diaz boy's eyes fell on Valentine and gave him a smile. Sam came back to the table and sat down in her seat. She did a double-take when she noticed that Valentine remained unmoved.
