Chapter 2-Rachel

Lunchtime rolls around quicker than expected (probably because I missed most of the first period), and classes were damn boring as usual. But unusually, SJ and I walk to lunch together. It's been such a long time since we've done that. The last time I remember was in middle school, practically three years ago. I've known SJ my entire life, but it doesn't feel like that. In a strange way, it feels like I've known SJ for such a short, amazing time yet at the same time, I feel like I've known her for eons. SJ's real name is Sierra but when she was in softball she went by SJ because her coach kept mispronouncing her name as Sara. Since high school started she's gone by Sierra and she's got a new group of friends. Her friends aren't bad. I mean I find them pretty and nice enough, but I've known Sierra for as long as I can remember and so I think I'm the only friend she needs. "Late to school, as always." SJ jokes. She nudges me hard on the shoulder. It hurts. She's wearing a white turtle neck to combat the cold, a black skirt and some boots. She looks really nice like she always does. "I guess. I had the strangest interaction this morning." I tell her. I can't get that snobby barista out of my mind. There was just something about him. "Lucky lady?" SJ asks, but I shake my head no. We stand in the lunch line. "Well, this new barista had such an attitude with me."
"And what comeback did you come up with?"
"Nothing! It's totally unlike me but I just gave him the money and grabbed my drink. Saw Jazzy there too."
"Why would you bring up Jazzy? You know I don't like that two-timing hooker." SJ says. She rarely curses but Jazzy just gets under her skin. Back in eighth grade, SJ used to date Tyler G. but then Tyler went to college while SJ was going into high school (yes you heard that right. Tyler, a senior at the time was dating a 13-year-old and nobody in town said anything about it.) and dumped SJ for a much older, much more mature college girl. Jazzy threw it in SJ's face and they almost fought. It was a crazy time.

I follow SJ to her table. I usually sit with the guys from my chemistry class but recently the vibes have been off. Ever since some of them got reported for groping girls. Both of SJ's friends are there. Lori the blond bimbo and Rachel. There is a lot to say about Rachel. I like everything about her. Her hair is dark blond, almost brown and she's got a rack that makes any girl jealous. Her smile is incomparable. (well not just her smile. Her entire face is absolutely gorgeous. She's easily the prettiest of the three of them.)

Rachel smiles at me and then goes back to eating her grilled chicken sandwich. I put my tray down and sit down next to SJ. "Oh, my, lanta! Elijah Rum is sitting at our table. Right next to us!" Lori shouts, wiggling in her seat. I wouldn't say that I'm popular. I'm by all means not the most well-known, popular guy in the school. But those who know me take a liking to me. I just have that effect on people. "It's just Elijah, no need to act all crazy." SJ says. She thinks that because she's known me for so long. "You'll scare him away," Rachel says and she giggles. (she even looks hot laughing.) I laugh at her corny joke. "I'm not that easily scared." I smile. Rachel's absolutely radiant. The perfect girl. Girlfriend material. I like the way that her hair falls down to her shoulder blades, even when she ties half of it up in a hair clip. I like how her outfits are always matching. I like how she wears a light amount of makeup but she always manages to look stunning. I like the way she gives herself more eye-lining. (eyeliner. It's called eyeliner.) I love how her two canines protrude out farther than the rest of her teeth even though she wears her retainer. I like how she paints her nails nude. She's very likable. So when she asks me to get together after school, I'm shocked. I didn't think she liked me."You're inviting him?" SJ asks. I step on her toe. "Yeah, why not? Is that a problem? It'd be fun to get to know him more." Rachel smiles at me. "Is that okay with you? Dinner starts at five." I nod. I literally cannot even speak while this goddess is speaking to me. "Yeah, that's wonderful. See you at five."
