"Ooo look Q, these are cute. Plus they'll match your clutch." Natalie held a pair of leopard print Louboutin flats in her hand.
"Whatever."
I shrugged her off and sat back in the store's lounge chair and continued browsing my Instagram newsfeed. We've spent two hours straight in this store looking for replacement shoes for my baby shower tomorrow because my feet are too swollen to rock my Pigalle Follies Strass's. Which sucks because I bought them just for this occasion. So last minute I had to revamp my entire ensemble, and here we are.
"Ahhh no, don't cry. We'll find something." She rushed to my side with a pouch of Kleenex in her hand.
I was not trying to hear it.
"Where Lie? We've been here for nearly three hours now and all the shoes I either can't fit, or don't like." I whined between sniffles.
"You know what forget it. I didn't want to have a shower anyway."
I snapped grabbing my purse and Skye's hand, heading in the direction of the exit. I just cannot deal with this today. I'm too pregnant to to be stressed about anything other than my babies.
"Mommy?" Skye grabbed my cheeks and lifted my head as she sat on my lap. We were sitting on the passenger seat of my car waiting for Lie and Raye to come out of the store.
"Yes sweetheart?"
"You can wear my shoes. Will you stop crying then?" She was so sincere. That's what I love about her the most; her heart is golden.
"Thanks mama, but I can't fit yours either." I laughed and squeezed her nose playfully.
"You could wear your anklets." She smiled referring to my gold chains that look like shoes. I wear them around the house, and they'd be perfect for tomorrow because I would be inside anyway.
"That's perfect Skye!"
Around that time Natalie and Arayia were getting in the car.
"What?" They asked
Simultaneously.
"My little stylist here just gave me the best idea ever!" I smiled and hi-fived a grinning Skye.
"So the baby shower is still happening?" Lie held her chest tightly.
I nodded yes in response.
"For the thousandth time." Arayia mumbled from the backseat.
"You've been takin us through it."
"Damn real." Natalie gave an agreeing look to Ray.
"Excuse y'all? But if I'm not mistaken, I made it very clear that I did not want to have this baby shower. This was y'all's, my mom's and Tawny's idea. Neither one of you is 7 and a half months pregnant WITH TWINS, living back and forth between two states, taking care of a fiancé and a three year old while going to school, and then dealing with the stress of a baby shower. Making sure both families are blending peacefully while they're here; if they even come for that matter. Doing every single thing the doctor told me not to, because I'm at high risk of miscarrying. Now, raise your hand if you're going through it." I smiled sarcastically with my hand in the air, daring either one of them to try me. Skye looked intently at the both of them right along with me.
"You're right girl, I didn't mean it that way sis." Raye reached over the seat to grab my hand.
"You know we got you girl, stop all this crying." Lie laughed as she wiped the tears from my eyes.
"I'm so tired." I sighed looking down at my stomach as Baby Deuce and Rima danced around inside.
"We know baby girl, but in a month and a half you'll be holding two bundles of joy in your arms. It'll all be worth it."
