Arush POV :
The atmosphere is heavy as hell. My stepbrother's getting married, and Sara still won’t forgive me. Damn it. An arranged marriage is already a nightmare, but seeing Sargun and Arjun look so damn happy together? It’s a kick to the gut.
Sara, though? She’s been giving me the coldest damn shoulders during all the wedding prep. Every time I try to get near her, it’s like she freezes me out completely. She’s pissed, and I get it. I really do, but it doesn’t make this any easier.
My eyes roam over the vineyard, taking in the decorations, the flowers, the fucking fairy-tale setup. It’s beautiful. Bittersweet, though. There’s something empty about it all. It’s Arjun's day, sure, but I can’t shake this feeling that everything’s slipping through my fingers.
I’m probably next in line for marriage, not by choice, of course. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t even consider tying the damn knot until Sara’s mine. And that’s the truth.
I run my hand through my hair, frustration bubbling up. My grandmother and all her siblings went through arranged marriages, same with my dad and my stepmom. That’s how we keep the Rathore family strong and connected. Hell, it’s how they’ve survived so long, unbeatable.
But I can’t help but wonder about my parents. My mom left right after I was born. I don’t even know what she looks like. How do you reconcile that with the whole "family tradition" bullshit? What was it like for my dad? Did he even care?
“It’s for the best,” Ritik mutters beside me, and I nod like I give a shit.
“Yeah? I’ll remind you of that when you’re next,” I snap back, not hiding the bite in my voice.
“Soon,” I add, watching the shock flash across his face.
“Really?” Ritik stares at me like I’ve lost my mind. “You? Marriage? You always said you didn’t want a wife, not now.”
“Fuck off,” I growl. He has no clue what’s really going on. Sara’s the only one I want, and she’s right here, acting like I don’t exist. But hey, keep guessing, Ritik.
The ceremony’s dragging on, and I can’t wait for it to be over. Arjun looks like the happiest idiot on earth, staring at Sargun like she’s the damn sun. Good for him. Whatever.
When the phera ends, and the crowd cheers, Arjun pulls Sargun in for a kiss, and I can’t help but smirk. He’s making a fucking fool of himself, practically eating her alive in front of everyone. He doesn’t even realize it, but he’s showing everyone just how badly he wants her. A hopeless romantic.
I stare straight ahead, my eyes drifting over the crowd until they land on Sara. Damn. She’s in a peach lengha today, and fuck me, she looks gorgeous. The way it hugs her body… she’s beyond perfection. Even when she’s ignoring me, she’s the most captivating thing here. She’s art. A masterpiece.
