TFC basically cursed the world with immortality, meaning that steves are completely unable to die except from a outside source...not so bad till decades and even centuries go by and everyone starts to lose it

Also anyone who enters the world also gains said immortality and can't leave through any means other than death...with one exception being our favorite boi

Sabre is said outside source and was basically sent to put down the Steve realm...except he doesn't know that at first, things seaming normal, with any deaths being replaced with some form of containment/fate worse than death sans any darkness related deaths because...the darkness kinda takes the place of the incinerator for this au, a way to turn off your brain sort of speak, nobody likes it but it's there, but those who willingly used it on themselves it still remain...

For the fate of SL characters that's up to whoever claims it, maybe they isolated themselves, maybe they're got themselves into some sort of inescapable situation, maybe they used the darkness on themselves to do you know what or found another way, nothing ever ends in everquest

The darkness arc is when thing's really pick up because the steves get to learn two things

1. Saber can be infected by the darkness, identical to cannon

2. he can kill them

Bringing the steves to fear death for the first time in their immortal lives...or to embrace it

Origin kinda takes both the roles of frog and the mysterious voice telling the absolute truths, eventually ending up telling saber his true purpose....which of course he doesn't take well, but theirs multiple paths he can take

Maybe he completely rejects the request, not wanting to be seen as the monster again, following the pacifist 'ending', maybe he only rejects at first but changes his mind once he realizes he has to do it, following reloading after said pacifist 'ending'..

Or maybe he accepts right away with a heavy heart, knowing that this is the only way to set them all free, not remembering he has done this once before and this is only the cleanup

since the MC in the game uses dolls as a make-shift body since they don't have one I keep imagining this au's Saber in the body of a chicken plush the size of those teddy bears a person can fit inside of and its glorious 😹
