A more fantasy Sci-fi spin on the story of Rainbow Quest, where the steves are more alien and Saber may have some extraterrestrial blood himself

Sabre is a hybrid of human and alien race unknown to most of the universe: the sky people, unknowing of his origins, he hides the features his unique biology brings, said features being facial markings, black eyes with glowing irises, and pointed ears, all mostly ending up being covered by his blindfold and hair

He's always felt a connection to the stars so when mysterious lights suddenly became visible in the night sky he followed them and got a little too curious, leading to his subsequent abduction and arrival to the steves homeworld...via crashing though red steve's roof after the ship that took him dropped him off right on top of it

There's a little bit of a language barrier at first (you can't expect an alien race you just met to know English after all) so the whole confusion song and dance that happens during the first ep still happens until Sabre realizes Red isn't there to harm him and ends up getting a universal translator from him to make up for his troubles

The whole temple thing happens, Sabre meets Orange, Red dies, we already know how this goes

As everything goes on Sabre experiences some subtle changes, things that he can just assume to be the result of him 'getting the hang of new situation', a little bit of resistance there, a little strength there, 'the immunity to darkness is because he's a different species' like that matters when it can infect the wildlife just fine

It all comes together during that fight with nightmare, where Sabre gets to learn he can breathe in space without a helmet the hard way. Turns out being hybridized with the sky people gives some perks with the power of adaptation: giving him a way to keep up with everything going on, this ability was mostly untapped back on earth but now that he's constantly getting into trouble it's running in full gear

As he learns how to get the best out of whatever his ability decides is needed, his traits I've mentioned before get more prominent, he even ends up with a tail at some point due to the fact that all the steves he's encountered have one

He also gains at least a small amount of powers to hold his own, mostly the standard stuff like lightning but he eventually does end up with bigger and more unique things later on

During the darkness arc, Shadow has the same adaptability that Sabre has so when Sabre finally gets back in control he ends up with some additional abilities that he never wanted, but since their already there and theoretically could give a advantage, their here to stay whether he wants them or not

As a thing of note: The Darkness is more similar to the symbiotes from marvel in this au, like a parasite that attaches to any living thing, could be good, could be bad....mostly ends up bad

The art at the top is how he got into this mess in the first place lmao, mans got bated by a hologram and beamed up into the unknown
