"when i first met your father, i wanted him to help me."
a young girl was being tucked to sleep by his father. her bright heterochromic eyes looked at her father's similarly mismatched ones, shining in interest once the older started to talk.
"тато, why would you want папа to help you?" iryna's eyes was full of curiosity as he stared directly to his father's eyes.
nikolai let out a small laugh, a far cry from his usual unhinged and crazed laugh, as he pats iryna's head.
"well, my little butterfly, your father was a very smart, he's terrifying and terribly smart for his own good." he muttered, brushing his daughter's long purple hair.
"just like me?" nikolai nodded, rubbing his thumb on his daughter's cheeks.
"yes, just like you.."
"fedya, well, your father helped me experience true freedom. he made me feel like i was a bird, freely soaring through the sky without a care in the world" he smiled as he reminisced all of the things that he had done together with his beloved husband.
"your father was the only one who can understand me, the only one who understood my obsession with freedom." he added, enjoying the fact that his dearest daughter is listening attentively to him.
"when...when i first witnessed his death, i was devastated. i thought i would feel happiness as i always aimed, no, dreamed to be the only one who would kill him but..." he closed his eyes when he remembered the severed hand that was left of his lover's body after the helicopter exploded.
"...but i was wrong. i wish i could've done more to understand fedya. he understood me and yet, i didn't understood him."
iryna sat up and use her stubby little hands to wipe the tears coming out of nikolai's eyes. with a semi-worried expression, she spoke.
"тато, don't cry please...папа is still alive and well, right?" nikolai smiled as he wiped his tears too.
"yes, my little butterfly, your father was alive and well.."
"but here is what i learned and i wish you would apply in the future once you find the person who could give you the freedom that your father gave me..."
"don't let that person go, and always...always understand and know them well. i don't want you to experience the pain that i had experienced before." he gave iryna as small hug before kissing her in the forehead.
"i would do that, тато, i would never let that person go, no matter what it takes. he is going to be mine and mine only.." iryna replied, her eyes showing a glint of obsession and possessiveness that a child should never have from the start.
nikolai saw it and he let out a laugh. "ah, my little butterfly, you're really just like me and your папа. i am excited to see how your future would look like.."
iryna grinned to nikolai, her green and purple colored eyes shines in pride and happiness.
"i'm excited too тато.."
