Christy stood over the stove cooking a special dinner for Todd. Tonight was their 3 year anniversary and instead of going out they had decided to stay home and Christy wanted to cook something special. She was currently making ritzy chicken and green bean casserole. She enjoyed cooking and being able to fix herself up and making the house look nice was just a bonus. It had been a little over a month since they moved in and Christy was still making little changes here and there to make the place perfect.
Todd had to work today and had left before Christy woke up. He left a note telling her that he would be home around 4 and that he loved her. She still didn't tire of the notes he left her every so often.
It was currently 3:30 and Christy left the food in the oven to warm. 4:00 was pretty early but she knew Todd would want to change and get ready but she wanted to have the food ready before hand anyway. Christy walked from the kitchen into the adjoining living room and down the hallway into their room with the adjoining bathroom. She went to the closet and picked out a simple black dress and slipped it on. She curled her hair and after putting on her makeup realized that she left her earrings upstairs.
She walked up to the open room that they used for a second living room. It had three adjoining rooms. Two of which were going to be used for the kids rooms and one they currently used for a library. She was cleaning it up this morning and had taken off her earrings when one got caught on the sleeve of her shirt.
At 3:55 Christy looked in the mirror one last time and then heard the door open. She walked into the living room and Todd's eyes lit up when he saw her.
"What smells so good?"
"Just a little something I whipped up."
"Well it smells good and you look amazing," he kissed her, "happy anniversary. Let me change real quick. I'll be right back." Christy laughed and walked into the kitchen to set the table.
Todd had cleaned up nice after work. He put on a white shirt with a black tie and some nice pants. Todd never dressed up and Christy was glad he did tonight. Christy set the plates in the sink when they finished dinner and Todd blew out the candles on the table. He walked over to her and grabbed her hand telling her that she could worry about that later. He grabbed a jacket and his keys as he led Christy to the car. She had no idea where they were going and when she asked Todd he got a boyish expression and looked straight ahead at the road. Christy was in for a surprise.
Todd only drove about a block and parked at the beach. Christy looked at him questioningly as he got out and come to open the door for her. He grabbed her hand and they walked down to the shore line. Christy felt all grown up to be in her fancy clothes and be walking on the beach with her husband.
"Why did we bring the car? You only drove a block."
"I don't know. Were on a different part of the beach and I thought we might take a drive after this. Maybe just around town." Christy loved the thought. She loved taking drives and apparently Todd knew it. They walked hand in hand for about a mile.
"Happy anniversary, Mrs. Spencer." Todd said that right as he stopped and pulled something out of his pocket. He grabbed Christy's hand and placed the wrapped box in it. Christy opened the box to reveal a beautiful diamond neckless. It was so beautiful Christy wanted to cry.
"Todd it's so beautiful."
"Here." He took it out of Christy's hand and walked around her to put it on her neck. He clasped the neckless and spun her around to get a clear view of her.
"Todd this is so amazing. I don't know what to say!"
"Well I just wanted to give you something special for our anniversary." Christ smiled at him and pulled his gift out of the pocket of her jacket.
"I did too, open it."
"The dinner you cooked tonight was gift enough for me." Todd took the box and opened the brown and gold watch.
"Christy, I love it."
"I knew you would. It's about time you had something to keep you from being late all the time."
"Oh now you've asked for it." He reached over and started tickling her. She couldn't help but try to get away. She tried running but his grip was too strong. She kept squealing pleading for him to stop and he finally stopped letting Christy catch her breath as he laughed. He grabbed her hand and led we back to the car.
The lights on the beach were the most beautiful thing Christy had seen in a while. They were strewn across and seemed to dance as they drove past them. They had been driving for about half an hour.
"Todd, where are we going?"
"You'll see eventually." He smiled and squeezed her hand. Christy had no idea what Todd was doing but she just leaned back and watched the lights dance past the window as they drove.
After about 10 minutes they stopped and Todd parked the car. They climbed out and Christy was staring at the sunset. It was so breath taking, the sun was almost gone. Todd took her hand and helped her on to the top of the car. Suddenly Christy realized what he was doing. This was the exact spot that they sat sometime when Christy was about 16 or 17. They came out to this exact spot and sat on top of Gus the bus.
"Todd, is this the same place?"
"Yes. This is the same place." She smiled at him. She barely remembered this but apparently Todd had remembered it fairly well. He put his arms around her and held her right as the evening wind blew. They watched the sunset and right as the last but of sunlight waved goodbye into the ocean they got back in the car and headed home.
"Happy anniversary Christy."
"Happy anniversary Todd." Her heart was so happy in this moment. The same lights from earlier shined a bit brighter now that the sun was gone. Christy focused on those lights and gently fell asleep as Todd began to sing along with the radio glancing at Christy every now and then.
"Thank you God. Thank you for Todd and the moments like these. You have truly blessed me." Christy thought right as she fell asleep.
