Chapter 5: Sydney Talks To Beth And Maria/Alti Puts Her Plan Into Motion

Later on after Beth gets some sleep, she looks at her phone and then calls Sydney, "Hey sis, can you come to my codo for a bit? I need to ask you about something?"

Sydney asks, "Ok. What's wrong?"

"I need to ask you about something that may or may not have happened about ten years ago," Beth says.

"Ok, give me a few minutes and I'll be there." Sydney says.

Fifteen minutes later, Sydney arrives at Beth's condo and asks," Ok, what's up sis."

"Back when I was in college, did I ever come home on break at the time?" Beth asks.

"Yeah, why?" Sydney asks.

"What happened to the stables that we had?" Beth asks.

"Andrea, I mean Alti, had it torn down for a fricken tennis court and pool!" Sydney says. "Why?"

"I've been having these dreams that I burnt down mom's horse stables" Beth says in confusion.

"You didn't burn down the stables Beth." Sydney says. "You knew how much those stables and riding horses meant so much to mom. We both were pissed when Andrea did that!! And remember how Jessie reacted when she came home for the summer! You and I practically had to restrain her from killing Andrea! Remember!"

Beth takes a breath, thinks, and says, "Yeah! But why did I have these dreams!"

"You're working too much Beth." Sydney says. "Why don't you take a weekend and go visit Aunt Kira and Dad."

"I'm pulling overnighters for next week." Beth says.

"Well after that, go and see Kira and dad! I know they'd love to see you!" Sydney says.

Beth smiles and says, "That sounds good! I will!"

"Ok! It's all set doctor!" Sydney says as they walk to the front door. "Beth, with all the plans you've made for becoming a doctor, don't let a stupid dream consume you! Ok!"

Beth smiles at her younger sister and says, "You're right, sis! And thanks for coming over and giving me this pep talk!"

"You're welcome!" Sydney says. "And don't forget to visit aunt Kira and dad!"

"I won't!" Beth says as Sydney leaves.

At the ranch, Maria is snooping around the stables. Seeing that Blaze and Seaira are out on a ride with Xena and Gabrielle, she looks at Roscoe and says, "You must be Kira's horse." She grabs an apple, gives it to him, which he gladly takes. Suddenly voices are heard outside the stable and Maria hides.

Kira and Joxer walk in and Kira says, "I hope the new shipment of grains comes in for the horses."

"It should be here today, Miss Kira." Joxer says.

"How's Maxie doing?" Kira asks.

"Great! She's going to her last meeting with the parole board and hopefully she'll get that bracelet off her ankle." Joxer says.

"How's things going with trying to have a baby?" Kira asks with a smirk!

Joxer smiles and says, "Great! She's been taking pregnancy tests daily!"

"Well, just remember that when it happens, you'll know." Kira says. "Morning sickness, weird food cravings and all."

"Yeah, I know, but the end result will be worth it." Joxer says smiling.

Kira puts a saddle on Roscoe and says, "You ready for a ride old boy? Let's go find Xena and Gabrielle!" Kira gets on her horse, looks at Joxer and says, "Why don't you go into town and see if that shipment of grains came."

"Will do Ms. Kira." Joxer says. Suddenly Maxie walks into the stables, she looks around and says, "Aww man! I wanted to say hi to Blaze."

"Maybe next time my love." Joxer says. "I have to go into town, you want to go with me?"

"I'll leave you two alone," Kira says as she takes off on Roscoe. Joxer smiles at Maxie and says, did you take the test?"

"Yes," Maxie says smiling

"And!" Joxer says with excitement on his face.

"I'll go with you into town," Maxie says.

"You haven't answered me!" Joxer says.

"I need to get more tests. The two I took were false/positive."

"We've been trying to get pregnant for months!" Joxer says. "I hope this is it!"

"Well come on you fucking goof! Let's go then!" Maxie says as they then leave.

Maria walks out of the stall, looks around, and says, "So a new baby! Exciting, but now I must cause a little accident." Maria walks out of the stables. She looks around and ducks behind the building. She sees Kira is about two miles away, riding Roscoe. She also sees about five miles away that Xena and Gabrielle are riding Blaze and Sierra. "Shit!" Maria says as she takes her gun out. "I just hope I don't hit Xena or Gabrielle."

"Xena! Gabrielle!" Kira yells as she rides to them. Suddenly out of nowhere a couple of shots are heard spooking Roscoe and he throws Kira to the ground, knocking her out.

"Aunt Kira!" Xena screams in horror.

"Kira! No!" Gabrielle also screams.

Xena and Gabrielle quickly get off of Blaze and Sierra and run to Kira. "Aunt Kira!" Xena says as she rolls her aunt over and sees blood trickling down her head.

"I heard gunshots!" Gabrielle's say in a panic. "Kira! Wake up!"

Xena checks Kira over and then says, "I need you to call 911! Where the hell did those gunshots come from!"

"It sounded like it was over by the stables," Gabrielle says as she gets out her phone and dials 911. "I need an ambulance to the Pappas ranch about four miles from the stables! Hurry!"

Xena takes out a handkerchief out of her saddlebag and wipes blood from Kira's forehead. "Aunt Kira! Can you hear me? It's Xena!"

Kira opens her eyes a little and asks what happened?"

"You were thrown from Roscoe," Xena says.

"We heard gunshots!" Gabrielle says frantically.

"Roscoe!" Kira says, trying to get up.

"You stay down, Aunt Kira! We'll find him!" Xena says.

Kira takes a breath and says, "Gunshots! From the stables." All of a sudden she starts going in and out of consciousness.

"Kira! We need you to stay awake!" Gabrielle says as an ambulance is heard off in the distance. "The ambulance will be here in about ten minutes."

"I'm ok. It's just a little bump on the head." Kira says.

"You may have a concussion, Aunt Kira," Xena says. "We need you to stay awake until you get checked out at the hospital, ok."

"Ok," Kira says as she looks at Xena and Gabrielle.
