Thereafter, Serenity's trip turned and wove between options. As she was dragged into the house by Daphne, she tried to resist, the churning and sinking combination in her stomach starting to make her want to vomit.

Daphne let go of Serenity's shoulder once they were inside, shutting the door behind them. Serenity felt somebody else grab her wrist just a moment later and tug her towards the stairs. It took her a moment to realize that it was Salvadore pulling her along.

"Are you okay?" Salvadore whispered. "I thought that we were supposed to meet up after school."

They were supposed to meet up. Serenity hadn't thought about Salvadore when she had decided to turn back. She completely forgot that she was going to have to explain what had happened and why they hadn't met up with each other.

"Shit, I forgot." Serenity lied. "I completely forgot about that." It was a terrible lie and she had a hard time keeping a straight face after she had said it, but she did her best to hold strong.

Salvadore seemed too worried to care about her lying. "Alright, well, maybe we can still figure out a way for you to get out of here." He said. "I don't know what everybody is planning, but I can snatch the car keys if you can meet me by the car."

Or maybe going back to the house was the best option. If Salvadore was going to help her out still, then maybe her entire plan hadn't gone to shit. She had just been so prepared that Salvadore would have been opposing her and lying that she had automatically assumed it was a failure. If he was still willing to help her, then he had been honest the entire time. She felt a little bad for thinking that he was lying.

Her biggest problem was just what was she going to do and how was she going to avoid her family? She had always been pretty good at avoiding her family, but that was because they had never really wanted or needed her around before. But if they were going to try to extract a demon, they were going to need somebody with a demon inside of her. Lucky Serenity had just that.

The only flaw in Salvadore's plan was the same one that Serenity had. They didn't know where they were going to go. They didn't know what they were going to do. While it was true that riding with Salvadore instead of taking the bus was a better option, it still wasn't a great idea.

They wouldn't know where to go or what to do. They might be able to make it for a little while, but they would never be able to last that long. Before they knew it, they would be lost and things would just come crashing down. It wasn't a good idea with so little preparation. She needed time to think and I that meant risking that her family might try to hurt her, she could take it. At some point, she would figure something out and he could get out of there was soon as possible.

"I don't think that we should." Serenity said. "Think about it, Sal. We would never make it because we don't have a plan. We don't know where we would go. Somebody could find us."

Then it hit her. Maybe it had always been Salvadore's plan to help her, but that didn't mean that he wouldn't betray her. There were tons of ways for her plan to fail and far less for her to succeed. It didn't matter if she got away and her parents found her because by the end of it, her parents had found her and it hadn't worked. If they did get away together, Salvadore could just give away where they were and she would be caught. Maybe Salvadore wasn't trying to help her at all.

She didn't know who she could trust. She couldn't risk trusting Salvadore. She had been way too reliant on other people. She didn't need them, that was the point. She had always believed in taking care of herself before others. That had been her mindset for the longest time.

She didn't think that it was just because she was a little selfish. It came down to who would be there for her. In the end, she would have herself. If she got stuck and stranded on an island with little to no food or water, who was she supposed to turn to? There was nobody that was just going to appear and help her out. She had to learn how to take care of herself and save herself.
