Chaeyoung spent the morning acclimating to her new environment. The vastness of the Kim Mansion was overwhelming, but Lisa’s friendly guidance made it more manageable. Lisa had given her a list of duties for the day, ranging from cleaning specific rooms to helping with laundry and meal preparations.
“Don’t worry,” Lisa had said with a reassuring smile. “You’ll get the hang of it in no time. If you have any questions, just find me.”
Chaeyoung nodded gratefully, feeling a bit more at ease with Lisa’s support. She began her tasks, carefully dusting the ornate furniture in the living room and making sure every surface sparkled. The mansion was impeccably maintained, and Chaeyoung was determined to uphold its high standards.
As she moved from room to room, she occasionally bumped into other staff members, who greeted her warmly and offered bits of advice. By mid-afternoon, Chaeyoung had settled into a rhythm, her initial nerves giving way to a sense of purpose.
She was polishing the large dining room table when she accidentally backed into someone. Startled, she spun around to see a young woman with striking features and an amused expression.
“Oh, I’m so sorry!” Chaeyoung exclaimed, bowing slightly. “I didn’t see you there.”
The young woman laughed, her eyes sparkling with amusement. “It’s fine, really. You must be new here.”
Chaeyoung nodded, feeling a bit flustered. “Yes, I am. My name is Chaeyoung.”
The woman extended her hand. “I’m Jennie. Nice to meet you, Chaeyoung. Don’t worry about bumping into me. I’m close with all the maids in the house. It’s hard not to be, living in a place this big.”
Chaeyoung shook Jennie’s hand, feeling a bit more relaxed. Jennie’s easygoing nature put her at ease. “Thank you, Jennie. I’ll try to be more careful.”
Jennie grinned. “No need to be so formal. We’re all one big family here. If you need anything or have any questions, just let me know.”
Chaeyoung smiled back, grateful for Jennie’s kindness. “I appreciate that.”
With that, Jennie gave her a friendly wave and continued on her way. Chaeyoung resumed her tasks, feeling more confident as the day progressed. By evening, she had completed all her duties and was looking forward to a moment of rest.
After dinner, Chaeyoung stepped out onto the balcony adjoining her room. The cool night air was refreshing, and she took a deep breath, looking down at the beautifully landscaped garden. The flowers were illuminated by the soft glow of the full moon, casting a serene light over the grounds.
Her thoughts drifted to her mother and the opportunity this job presented. The salary would be a tremendous help in covering the medical expenses, and the stability of living at the mansion was a blessing. As she stood there, lost in her thoughts, she noticed someone walking along the rows of flowers below.
A young woman with an elegant gait and an air of quiet contemplation was strolling through the garden. Chaeyoung’s eyes followed her, captivated by her serene presence. The woman’s face was partially obscured by the shadows, but as she looked up, her eyes met Chaeyoung’s, reflecting the light of the full moon.
For a moment, time seemed to stand still. Chaeyoung’s heart raced, unsure of what to do. She hesitated, then raised her hand in a shy wave. The woman’s lips curved into a gentle smile as she waved back, her expression warm and welcoming.
Chaeyoung’s face flushed with a mix of embarrassment and excitement. She quickly retreated back into her room, her heart still pounding. She leaned against the door, wondering who the girl in the garden was. Her smile had been so kind, so genuine.
As Chaeyoung prepared for bed, her mind kept returning to the mysterious woman. The day had been filled with new faces and experiences, but that brief encounter in the garden stood out. She hoped she would have the chance to meet her properly and get to know the person behind that captivating smile.
Her first day at the Kim Mansion had been overwhelming yet filled with promise. As she drifted off to sleep, Chaeyoung felt a sense of anticipation for what the future might hold, both for her and for the people she would come to know in this grand new world.
