The Kim Mansion buzzed with excitement as preparations for the ball got underway. Chaeyoung and the other maids moved swiftly through the grand halls, hanging decorations, arranging flowers, and ensuring everything was perfect for the evening’s event. The mansion transformed into an ethereal wonderland, with twinkling lights, elegant drapery, and stunning floral arrangements.

Chaeyoung found herself caught up in the festive spirit, her earlier nerves replaced by a sense of purpose. She worked alongside Lisa and the other staff, all of whom were friendly and supportive. The camaraderie was palpable, and despite the hard work, there was an air of anticipation and excitement.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the final touches were made, and the staff began to prepare themselves for the ball. Unlike typical events, the Kims were generous enough to invite their staff as guests, allowing them to join in the festivities once their duties were complete.

“Here, you can wear this,” Lisa said, handing Chaeyoung a beautiful, simple dress. “It’s a bit old, but it should fit you well.”

Chaeyoung took the dress with gratitude. “Thank you, Lisa. It’s lovely.”

After changing into the dress, Chaeyoung looked at herself in the mirror. She barely recognized the girl staring back at her. The dress, though modest, made her feel like she belonged, at least for tonight. Lisa, dressed in a similar fashion, gave her an approving nod.

“You look great,” Lisa said with a smile. “Now, let’s go enjoy the ball.”

The two of them walked down the grand staircase, joining the gathering crowd in the main hall. The guests mingled and chatted, the air filled with laughter and music. Chaeyoung felt a bit out of place but was determined to make the best of the night.

At the top of the stairs, Mr. and Mrs. Kim stood with their daughters, Jisoo and Jennie. Mr. Kim raised a glass, his voice carrying over the crowd.

“Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us tonight,” he began. “Let the festivities begin!”

The family descended the stairs, joining the guests on the dance floor. Chaeyoung watched from the sidelines, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the lively atmosphere. She had never been to a ball before, and the sheer grandeur of it all was both enchanting and intimidating.

She stood awkwardly by the wall, observing the crowd. As she scanned the room, her eyes fell on the mysterious girl from the garden. Jisoo was gracefully making her way through the crowd, her elegant gown shimmering under the lights. She walked with a calm confidence, and Chaeyoung couldn’t help but admire her.

To Chaeyoung’s surprise, Jisoo approached her with a warm smile. “Hello again. I’m Jisoo.”

Chaeyoung’s heart skipped a beat. “Hi, I’m Chaeyoung.”

Jisoo’s smile widened. “Why aren’t you dancing with the others, Chaeyoung?”

Chaeyoung looked down, feeling a bit embarrassed. “I’ve never been to a ball or anything like this before. I don’t really know how.”

Jisoo nodded understandingly. “It can be a bit overwhelming, can’t it? How about we step outside to the balcony? It gets pretty crowded in here.”

Chaeyoung hesitated for a moment but then nodded. “Sure, that sounds nice.”

Jisoo led the way, and the two of them stepped out onto the balcony. The cool night air was refreshing, and the noise from the party faded to a gentle hum. Chaeyoung looked out at the garden below, feeling a sense of calm.

“I didn’t think you’d be the type to disappear from everyone,” Chaeyoung commented, glancing at Jisoo.

Jisoo laughed softly. “Unlike my sister Jennie, I prefer quieter moments like this.”

Chaeyoung smiled, feeling more at ease. “I can see why. It’s really peaceful out here.”

"Are you new here, Chaeyoung?" Jisoo asked, "I've never seen you before..."

"I am, I grew up mostly in a small town."

"I see..."

They talked for a while, sharing stories and getting to know each other. Chaeyoung found herself drawn to Jisoo’s genuine and kind nature. Despite her initial nerves, she felt comfortable and even happy to be there.

As the night wore on, the party began to wind down. Jisoo turned to Chaeyoung with a grateful smile.

“Thank you for joining me tonight, Chaeyoung. It was nice to have some company.”

Chaeyoung blushed slightly. “Thank you for inviting me. I had a really nice time.”

Jisoo’s eyes held a hopeful look. “Will I be seeing more of you around?”

Chaeyoung couldn’t help but smile at the hopefulness in Jisoo’s voice. “Yes, I think so. I’ll be around.”

Jisoo’s heart shaped smile brightened. “I’m glad to hear that.”

As they rejoined the party, Chaeyoung watched Jisoo leave amongst the crowd. Her eyes looked over to Jennie, who watched them with curious eyes before Chaeyoung looked away. The girl looked around with one last glance before turning away and heading off for the night, she wondered...

She wondered who Kim Jisoo was.

Her mind couldn't get the oldest daughter out of her head.
