Upon walking out of the fireplace, the adults all leave in different directions. Turning towards Draco, I begin to explain the plans for the rest of the summer.
"Draco," I call, "place your things inside your room and start reading over all of the things for this coming year."
"But," he begins to protest.
"No buts," I interrupt, calmly like you would a tantruming toddler. "Do you want to be the highest in the class or the lowest?"
"The highest," he mumbles, looking towards the ground, ashamed.
"That's what I thought. Next time, let's not try to go against my," I pause trying to find the right word, "suggestion. Otherwise, I might just leave you and have to find a new best friend, one who listens to my suggestions."
His head whips up from looking at the ground and makes eye contact with wide open eyes. "No!" he exclaims. "I have to be your best friend!"
"Maybe Blaise should be my best friend?" I inquire. "Or perhaps Theodore?"
"No!" he demands, adamant on staying with my best friend. "I will not go against your suggestions ever again." He moves his head down slightly, showing me his agreeance.
"Good," I muse. "Now get going and read them properly. I will test you before we start the school year to see if you remember it all." He glances up at me with a hint of fear in his eyes before nodding and going to his room to start reading.
The rest of the time between getting the supplies for Hogwarts and September 1st were spent studying and practising magic. Of course, Draco couldn't perform it but he got the correct wand movements, and pronunciation, so as far as learning before school, he is set. I quizzed him about halfway through to see how far he has come and I am just finishing marking his latest test.
"Draco," I call. He rounds the corner with a look of anticipation displayed on his face.
"How did I do?" he ventures.
"Not bad," I reveal, flicking the stapled paper towards him. On the cover a big 100% is displayed. Once his eyes flicks over the score his demeanour immediately uplifts. "You read your books thoroughly, hopefully you will receive a high grade. While at school, I expect you to learn the content for next year. If you need help, I expect you to go to one of the older students and not a teacher that isn't professor Snape. Do you understand?"
"Yes," he answers, eager to enact my plans.
"You will also hand in your assignments at least 1 day in advance," I order. "All assignments should be completed the day that they are assigned, if not the day after. Leave the assignments in your dorm in the time between completion and submission. This will leave you time to do any other orders that I dictate while in Hogwarts. As my best friend, you will be given more tasks to accomplish then my other friends. Do you understand your role?"
"I understand," he acknowledges. "All my classwork will be done around the tasks that are assigned."
"Good," I compliment. "Now, go and dress in Hogwarts robes as we are about to leave for the train soon." Nodding his head, he turns around and walks off towards his room to change into his clothing for school.
A few minutes later, Narcissa calls both of us to come down. Draco drags his trunk behind him towards me. Waving my wand, I silently floated our trunks down the stairs and into the area next to the fireplace.
"Thank you for having me all this time, Narcissa," I thank.
"Oh, it was no problem dear," she answers. "Besides, I don't mind having another girl around from time to time." Lucius struts into the room and pulls Cissy in for a kiss.
