//Chapter 16//

You stirred, the early morning light peeking through the cabin's curtains. The scent of pine and earth intertwined with the lingering aroma of last night's dinner filled the room. You felt a warm presence behind you, a heavy arm draped over your waist, and realized it was Monty's. You laid there for a moment, listening to the tranquil silence of the cabin. The peacefulness of the moment washed over you like a gentle wave.
"Monty..." you murmured, turning slightly to face him. His eyes were closed, but his grip on you tightened slightly, as if he knew you were awake. You took a moment to appreciate the quiet intimacy of the scene, the warmth of his body against yours. It was strange, but somehow comforting.
Monty stirred, his eyes flicking open to reveal the soft, early morning light reflecting off his metallic green irises. He offered you a sleepy smile, his teeth gleaming. "Mornin'," he murmured, his voice a gentle bass that seemed to resonate through the cabin. His arm tightened around you, pulling you closer into his embrace.
"Morning," you said, your voice still thick with sleep. You couldn't help but return his smile, feeling the warmth of his body against yours. The comfort was surprising, but somehow, it felt right. "Did you sleep well?"
Monty's smile grew wider, his eyes shimmering with the early light. "Better than I have in ages," he confessed, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate through the mattress. He took a moment to stretch, his powerful arms flexing slightly as he did so. "There's something about this place that just feels... right." His gaze fell back to you, and for a moment, you could see the gears turning in his eyes, as if he was trying to put into words what he was feeling. "It's like the quiet lets me hear the music in my heart more clearly." His tail swished gently behind him, the spikes on his wristbands glinting in the sun.
You felt your heart flutter at his words, the innocence in his gaze tugging at a string of something deep within you. The idea of sharing the place with him filled you with excitement, but you kept your thoughts to yourself for now, allowing the anticipation to build. "Let's get some breakfast, and then I have a surprise for you," you said, keeping your voice casual.
"A surprise?" His eyes lit up with curiosity, the green of his scales seeming to glow with anticipation. "What is it?" he asked, his tail swishing with excitement.
"Well, it wouldn't be much of a surprise if I just told you, now would it?" you teased, sliding out of bed with a stretch. You felt the coolness of the cabin's floorboards against your bare feet as you padded over to the window, drawing the curtains back to reveal the breathtaking view of the countryside, bathed in the soft, early morning light. "But I promise, it's something special." You turned to face him, your eyes sparkling with mischief. "First, l'm going to go make some coffee,"
Monty couldn't help but chuckle at your playful evasiveness, his eyes never leaving yours. "Alright, you got me curious," he said, sitting up in the bed. The sheets fell away from his broad chest, revealing the intricate tattoos that sprawled over his torso—each one a story from his past, a reminder of his origins and the music that had brought him to life. He watched as you moved around the room, your movements filled with a quiet grace that seemed to complement the serenity of the cabin. "But remember," he called after you, his voice a playful growl, "I expect something big after all that buildup." He climbed out of bed, his powerful legs carrying him to the closet where he had stowed his clothes. He pulled on a simple black t-shirt and a pair of worn-in jeans, his tails swishing behind him. The sight of him dressed down was surprisingly endearing, making him seem less like an unstoppable rockstar and more like a companion for the quiet moments of life.
